Why this category is important
Cardano needs a thriving ecosystem of different Dapps, products and integrations for the community to use that increasingly become the better alternatives over current centralized providers.
The more interesting and useful the products and integrations are that can be built in the ecosystem the more reasons people have to interact with the Cardano blockchain that can help further drive more adoption, feedback, growth and even more innovations.
Types of proposals to include
DeFi - Stable coins, DEXs, borrow & lending, synthetic assets, etc.
Marketplaces
Gaming - Open world games, card games, RPG, etc.
Transport & logistics
Hardware - Hardware wallets, Local ATMs for interacting with the blockchain, etc.
Physical products - Tokenised housing as a Cardano native asset, International crypto headquarters and liason office on every continent, etc.
Social media
Nation governance systems - New governance systems for nation-states
Environment - Solutions that help to solve environmental issues
Many others - Any other idea, product or integration that someone thinks should be built in the Cardano ecosystem!
Potential success metrics for proposal types
This list is not exhaustive but does provide some ideas for proposers to consider.
DeFi - Total value locked, the total number of users, number of active daily/weekly/monthly users
Marketplaces - Total number of users, number of transactions performed
Gaming - Number of players, player income generated (if play to earn), qualitative feedback on game experience, etc.
Transport & logistics - Total number of packages tracked, Number of counterfeit items prevented
Hardware - Number of items sold, number of total users, number of interactions with hardware solution
Physical products - Number of products tokenised as a native asset, Number of people using physical solutions
Nation governance systems - Amount of population onboarded, amount of costs saved due to new solution, security difficulty improvements over previous approach
Social media - Total number of users, number of meaningful interactions
Environment - Total number of users, total CO2 sequestered, amount of awareness being produced, number of people changing an environmentally damaging habit
Many others - Proposers can add in whatever metrics or success criteria make sense for their own project!
Considerations for proposers
Existing products or integrations - What products or integrations already exist in the ecosystem? What are the core differences between the proposal being presented and those existing ones and why will that provide impact to the ecosystem?
Technical requirements - Does the Cardano ecosystem have the right tools, libraries and SDKs for the idea to be feasible? What needs to be introduced or improved for the proposal to fully reach its potential?
Ecosystem maturity requirements - Why is this product or integration suitable for execution right now? Are there enough pieces of infrastructure, applications or other integrations available that would be needed for this suggested proposal to have a strong chance of gaining adoption? For instance, if you were making a professional social network DApp, do the right identity tools and wallets exist to make a professional network feasible?
FUNDING CATEGORIES BACKGROUND
Funding Categories is an approach to doing funding categorisation that will welcome all ideas, maximize the amount of ideas submitted and reduce the effort for all stakeholders in the Catalyst process.
Funding categories also help remove the existing issues with challenge settings. They help to prevent duplicate challenge settings, remove challenges created by self interest, reduce the need for deep knowledge of the ecosystem from challenge proposal teams and also removes an easy entry point for malicious actors.

In closing:
The potential opportunities that Catalyst can provide to genuine dapp and product developers have increased substantially. A 32x increase in the span of a year.
At the same time, it’s now up to the Catalyst community to drive the direction of the experiment by setting the challenges that provide funding opportunities for developers.
We, in the Catalyst community, need to change our perspective on the nascent experiment and enable it to grow up.
It’s time for the Catalyst community to step up and provide developers with the challenges that will unlock the funds they need to be able to develop for, and on Cardano with confidence.

Increasing the number of dapps and products available for the community to use that help to enrich the ecosystem with new use cases.
Increase the number of integrations that bring existing solutions together for a more seamless and connected experience between different products.
Increased quality of existing products & integrations through suggested improvements that is supported by customer feedback or increased usage by the community.

Creation or improvement of different Dapps, products, and integrations that provide value to the Cardano community and wider ecosystem.
Integrations with other existing services, products, and protocols that improve the end-user experience whether that's giving the user more options or making something easier to use that benefits the wider ecosystem.
Open Source NFT Analytics Platform
Solution: Open Source NFT analytics platform with free and open individual tool API integration for any organization or individual building on Cardano.
Open Source Citizen Science Apps
Solution: Using OpenLitterMap as a guide, we want to build a number of similar open source platforms + tools that can inspire action in citizen science to fix problems like landmines and dereliction
Open dApp Framework
Solution: Conduct an analysis of existing project management dApps to provide a general, open-source framework and document it as project based learning material modules.
Online tools for generative artists
Solution: We will build a webapp code editor & visualiser in conjunction with a compact art engine, specifically designed for on-chain art creation directly integrated with a minting service and virtual gallery
Online Makerspace
Solution: An online rapid prototyping platform that will incentivize the Makers and provide a red thread back to the industry, and Users are able to turn their ideas into an NFT.
On-Chain Tilemaps for Game Worlds
Solution: An open-source standard for creating worlds with on chain tilemaps. The first tilemap added will be CC0 and usable for all of Cardano.
On Chain NFT Notifications
Solution: Build out a web app for receiving updates on projects and native apps for iPhone and Android to receive notifications from projects.
Onboarding Sri Lanka
Solution: Create a comprehensive onboarding process for kids to senior citizens to become comfortable with Cardano and Catalyst proposal building.
Onboard Freelancers to any projects
Solution: A system where project can establish transparency of team members doing various roles join on a shift basis and be paid for the shifts.
OMIMIMO - The Pure Water Game
Solution: Developing a future store of value by protecting pure water and rare species.
Creating knowledge of nature.
Through gaming our goal is to increase and train cognitive capacities in all humans.
Olympics–Shots promotion platform
Solution: Flashot, 45 sec. short media, provides an block-chain based platform for meeting demand by entities willing to promote a specific product, masterpiece or location and video, picture, comic art-makers

Solution: A social trial app, clinical trials as a social medium, leveraging the proliferation of individual involvement in social media to obtain data on self administered trials while compensating users.

Solution: We plan to build an NFT marketplace where the NFTs are backed by certified physical collectables. Our solution is to offer lower costs, easier access and greater liquidity.
NOMICA Incentive Platform
Solution: NOMICA has the ambition to be the leading provider for ESG products and for for the market place to become the main destination to buy NFT’s for these ESG products.
NGO Impact Data Collection App
Solution: Havuta provides a blockchain-based mobile app to help NGOs dramatically lower the costs of impact data collection for the programs they run; providing data for NGOs and transparency for donors.
NFT Valuation Public API
Solution: CNFT Jungle Valuation Tool will assess NFTs value for users using the Jungle Database which consists of: Full CNFT sales history for every asset and collection, rarity data, traits, listings and more.
NFT Use & Utility on AR Platforms
Solution: We are building NFT's on Cardano into our Augmented Reality adventure platform that is playable anywhere outdoors on IOS/Android mobile devices.
NFT Swap Infrastructure Templates 2
Solution: A dapp showcasing the open-source NFT swapping smart contract templates we're developing. These will be accompanied by matching off-chain code, easy to adapt and implement by any Cardano NFT project.
NFT Store Builder
Solution: An NFT Store builder will allow artists to create their store from the ground up in minutes with pre-built components and no coding knowledge.
NFTs + smart legal contracts
Solution: We propose a marketplace backed by a hassle-free IP agreement negotiation framework to create a place where IP holders and creators can freely collaborate without fear of copyright infringement.
NFTs go Mobile
Solution: We want to create native mobile applications (iOS and Android) for JPG Store with deep linking technologies to allow a smoother trading and minting experience for people using mobile devices.
NFT Search Engine on Cardano
Solution: We will develop an app to search metadata in the Cardano blockchain utilizing Cardano-node, Cardano db-sync, PostgreSQL, IPFS, and web tech.
NFT renting(by Lending Pond)
Solution: The Lending Pond team will make a peer to peer NFT renting platform using smart contracts to support Cardano NFT projects and games in their in game economies.
