What is Blockademia?

Rising number of false academic and professional credentials is an issue that hurts not only the academic community, but a wider economy as well. Dozens of government employees were discovered to have falsified diplomas and certificates in the last few years in the Republic of Croatia alone. Illegal businesses issuing false documents are thriving and the consequences are serious.

Blockademia is a system that will enable institutions to issue diplomas and/or other certificates to their students. Students will get an immutable proof of their academic merit accessible through Cardano anywhere, anytime. Institutions will reduce their costs of issuing certificates and will also have access to the historical data they issued as well.

Furthermore, it is expected that by the year 2023, close to 300 million people globally will hold an academic or higher education diploma or certificate.

We are a well-positioned professional team with existing connections in the academic community in the region. We have an existing off-chain solution for verifying credentials for our academic and corporate clients.

Blockademia will be self-sustainable through the implementation of ACI utility token. Institutions will need to hold a certain amount of ACI tokens in an escrow account to enable creation of new certificates. Blockademia system will leverage smart contract functionality by developing a set of open-source smart contracts to be used by institutions and any other future participants. Blockademia system will be looking forward to incorporate Atala Prism in line with the vision of IOG and the rest of the market as soon as it will be available for public use. The company Smart Contract d.o.o. will coordinate the ACI token offering and will govern the Blockademia system until complete decentralization of the system. Decentralized governance will be achieved through ownership of the ACI token and decentralized identity.

To show our dedication for the project, we are investing our personal funds and time for the web front-end development and we plan to have it ready by the time the Fund 6 finishes. We will also cover the initial costs of marketing and promotion, as well as tokenomics and whitepaper development.

QUESTIONS FROM THE COMMUNITY:

Can you expand on your Business model more. How will the business be commercially viable? Where will it get revenue from and what is the breakeven from ongoing operating expenses for the business to turn a profit?

We, as a company, will offer access to a web and a mobile application. There will be 4 different levels of access to the system: Single user, Multi user, Professional and Enterprise. Each user level will have to lock a certain amount of ACI tokens (native token for Blockademia) to get access to their system level. Single user will need X amount of ACI tokens and will be able to issue X certificates per year through our system. Professional user will need 10X amount of tokens and will be able to issue 10X certificates a year, will be able to register several users to the platform and will have access to both web and mobile app. Each certificate issued will cost an additional amount in ACI tokens - part of that fee will be paid to Blockademia and part will go to the treasury. Additionally, we will offer a referral program where referrers will earn a part of the fee and finally we will offer a franchise model to our partners who will earn a part of the fee for their efforts. We will be publishing our white paper soon where all the details and exact numbers will be included, so please stay tuned for that.

What is your go to market strategy? How will you get universities to buy the product and incorporate it into their enterprise systems?

We did our market research and in conversations with potential clients we notice a necessity for this kind of a system. A lot of institutions use basic Excel sheets or databases which are manually edited, prone to human error and administratively expensive and inefficient. There is definitely a market need, but also a real will from institutions to adopt Blockademia. On the other hand, we plan to distribute ACI tokens to market as quickly and as efficiently as we can. We plan to execute private and public sales rounds and reserve a certain amount of tokens to onboard institutions to our system.

What is going to top stop universities from just building their own based on funding some PHD students thesis?

Great question! I would say, basically nothing. If that's the way they want to go, of course they can. And in a certain amount of time, we plan to open-source our system and release the governance into the hands of the DAO. The difficult part is building the system, testing it out, making it work, onboarding the users and creating trust in the system. We are of the opinion that it is much simpler and cheaper for institutions to just use our system since it will be a ready commercial product instead of building their own. Also. any institution will have an option of becoming a franchise owner if they want to use the system for earning tokens.

First, yes this is an issue but you are not the only one fighting this. As you are mentioning lots of numbers, there are also many parties preventing a large size of what you are showing.

We are not claiming we are the only ones tackling this issue. Actually, we have contacted the Deqree team from India who had a very similar proposal in Fund 5 and we are thinking of ways to collaborate. We are aware there are existing systems for verification, of course. Our system, compared to those, will be significantly cheaper, actually free of charge for small users that want to verify up to 25 documents per year. Also, using Cardano gives permanence and immutability and the verifiers will not depend on the institution itself to verify the document.

Second. If a qualification is real but fraudulent this means that a person high up the tree at universities have assigned that person the degree. So how can you stop this with Blockademia?

This is a very good question and such an important part of the whole story. Initially, we will be onboarding institutions which have high reputation in Croatia, institutions without affairs involving forgery and with significant numbers of students over a long period of time. We will do due dilligence about all of the institutions that are onboarded to the system. Long term, an incentivized governance structure between institutions themselves will be set up. But still, this is one of the difficult points and we are looking forward to discovering solutions, discussing with institutions and the community about it.

Third. The funding is very strange. First you require 6k for backend development and design and then you need another addition web development funding. Isn't this supposed to be a decentralized application?

So this is our cost breakdown:

Back end SW development and design consists of creating software that writes data to the blockchain and its testing and it costs $5.000.

Web development (registration form and loyalty program for token presale) - we need to create, publish, save and orchestrate a registration form for people to register and we will have incentives for spreading the network. This costs $10.000

Web development (referral system & KYC) - we need to develop and integrate a KYC system and software that saves referrers and connects them to people they referred. This costs $14.000

It will be a decentralized application, but the development of any application (centralized or decentralized) has initial costs for development, testing and deployment.

Where does there needs to be a referral system be implemented when you list all the things you want to tackle?

The referral system is there to incentivize onboarding new users to the Blockademia application to achieve high as possible decentralization. We just updated our proposal today with the initial version of our whitepaper, the details of the referral system are included there.

How do you need 11k for web development to setup the token sale? Why do you need the token sale in the first place, you haven't mentioned anything about it. Just that you need the funds for it.

$10.000 will be practically funnelled to development of our token launchpad - so website with registration, news, updates, KYC, database backend. You are correct, we did not mention the token sale because we were still developing our initial whitepaper. I published it now, so please take a look at it and write feedback!
