Detailed Plan

<u>Introduction</u>

Decentralized autonomous organizations (DAOs) are a recent innovation primarily made possible by distributed ledgers and smart contracts. Considered by some the successor of the LLC, proponents are well aware of the structure's coordinating power. For instance, Constitution DAO recently raised $47 million to participate in an auction for a rare copy of the United States Constitution. Although the DAO was eventually outbid, its highly competitive offering organized in a record short time caught the attention of CNBC and others. We aim to promote this type of agility among autonomous communities organizing on top of Cardano.

To live up to their name, however, DAOs must incorporate a significant amount of decentralized structure via smart contracts. To expedite their creation, we will implement a system that can rapidly roll out a DAO. Similar in form to the SaaS model, our DoubleDAO ($DD) system will:

  1. Securely store funds of DAO token holders and the DAO

  2. Include an accurate voting mechanism

  3. Incorporate a configurable base framework of democratic systems with methods for extension

  4. Fairly award dividends or prizes to token holders

  5. Offer a front-end system available at a unique domain upon signup

Fees across the platform will be paid in Ada and DAO-specific native tokens. In turn, user-DAOs will benefit from a robust platform configured to meet their needs. Early on and throughout the protocol's lifecycle, $DD will also be distributed among User-DAOs. $DD will confer voting rights to holders and can be staked. These mechanisms will align incentives among all ecosystem participants while driving engagement and the development of the platform as a whole.

<u>Functional Overview</u>

MLabs has designed a governance structure we deem the "Epoch System." In this model, an application Epoch describes a period of time wherein an application behaves in a circumscribed manner. Our design ensures continuity from one Epoch to another while allowing a system to evolve following the decisions of its stakeholders. In part, we achieve this by separating the operational logic from the overarching organizational logic of a DAO. These scripts can be swapped out by changing the DAO UTXO which gets propagated further into the system.

We will create the Double DAO structure using this model – a DAO of token holders that benefit from and maintain user-DAOs relying on our SaaS-like smart contract suite. In turn, the shareholders of user-DAOs will be able to mix-and-match functionality as they construct their communities.

Double DAO will offer many benefits to users:

* Reduced audit surface area

* Reduced complexity

* Ability to engage community members in a DAO before app launch

* Extensible design that is easy to integrate

Similarly, $DD token holders will enjoy:

* Dividends

* Tier-based fee reductions

* Ability to vote for new features

* Ability to vote to spend DoubleDAO reserve funds

<u>Why should MLabs build this protocol?</u>

MLabs has quickly become one of the premier development firms in the Cardano Ecosystem.

We are a Plutus Partner that has made significant contributions to the space. We currently employ over 60 developers working with partners such as:

* Liqwid

* SundaeSwap

* Ardana

* CardStarter

* PlayerMint

With many more projects in the early stages of development.

Because of our work on many of these early-stage projects, we have one of the community's largest groups of Haskell / Plutus developers. Developers working on DoubleDAO will bring their collective experience to the project and ensure a successful launch.

The Clarity team continued its weekly Town Hall breakout rooms in support of its Fund9 proposals and the project overall. Several collaborations and partnerships are underway, with some announced over the last month (e.g., Genius Yield, see @clarity_dao on Twitter for details).

On the development side, work on the governance protocol (e.g., proposal advancement) continued. Engineers initially faced complications minimizing UTXO script size as well as incorporating government authority tokens (GATs, see Liqwid-labs/agora on GH) throughout the relevant modules and processes. Devs will likely rely on reference scripts to sidestep the limitations and issues encountered. Work also began integrating the CTL, a Fund8-funded proposal (https://bit.ly/3qO07S8). Currently, CTL v2 is supported (including Babbage features).

Finally, high-level progress was also made. UX/UI was improved and the team accomplished more thorough MVP planning and scoping. Further detail on development updates can be found in the Clarity Community Discord (http://bit.ly/38DT1cU).

October was a busy month for the Clarity/DoubleDAO project, especially on the Business Development side. We met with major Cardano projects at RareBloom, cNFTcon, and the Web 3 Expo. We participated in panel discussions and the like, networking constantly, and The Clarity Twitter handle (@clarity_dao) showcases these efforts nicely. A platform aimed at promoting and facilitating DAO adoption, this type of work is vital to the recognition of our project and, ultimately, making the Cardano ecosystem more decentralized.

Perhaps more importantly, Clarity also kicked off our DAO pitch competition and saw greater-than-expected interest and proposal submissions – 22 DAOs building on Cardano are aiming to qualify for the competition. Although this initiative was not funded in Fund9, we decided to push forward regardless because it stands to underpin an ecosystem of robust DAOs. Submissions closed Oct 18th, and we are anticipating the results.

On the development side, upbeat progress continued. We updated CTL to v2, ushering in Babbage support while updating our offchain code. Developers added support for querying a user's wallets for Governance tokens - an important feature - and worked to simplify the deployment of reference scripts.

Simultaneously, we worked through several front-end features to improve the user experience. Users can now manage how their favorite DAOs are displayed, more easily explore DAOs, and interact with and create governance proposals. A significant step, we also finalized the flow of DAO creations. This straightforward process allows users to easily create new DAOs by filling out a multi-step online form.

Over the last month, the main focus on the Business Development side was our DAO Pitch Competition. Here, Clarity, alongside expert panelists, heard pitches from 16 DAOs building in the ecosystem. The competition took place over two sessions and the results will be announced soon.

Along these lines, we also hosted a pitching workshop. Understandably, the Clarity community was focused on pitches over the last month, so developing this crucial skill together makes a lot of sense. The pitch workshop can be viewed here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=sZHrmJYAMyk

On the technical side, we made improvements to our documentation set and updated and reviewed our specs. This was accompanied by refactoring a portion of our codebase dealing with on-chain and off-chain storage while fixing some minor UI and browser-side issues in the meantime.

That said, the Clarity dev team also continued building a fluid and effective governance system. Specifically, this included work on the voting rewards validator and Agora integration. With Agora, some interfacing issues with CTL occupied a portion of our attention. Another core dev was onboarded, and CTL/Webpack issues were addressed.
