Just over 1 year ago, Cardano entered the Voltaire era - and beyond. Network parameters are no longer just background configuration settings. They are governance objects. ADA holders and dReps can propose and vote on changes that affect transaction costs, resource limits, treasury mechanics, and other structural features of the chain.
This shift created a new requirement: literacy. Not just technical literacy for developers, but governance literacy for participants.
At the start of this project, information about Cardano parameters existed. You could find them in CIPs, explorers, and technical documentation. But there was no single place where someone could learn what each parameter does, why it exists, how it has changed over time, and what trade-offs are involved in adjusting it.
What We Built
Under Project Catalyst Fund 13, we proposed to build a Parameters Explorer. The goal was to create a structured, multimedia reference hub covering 33 Cardano network parameters in plain language.
Each parameter now has its own page on Lido Nation that includes:
- A written article explaining what the parameter controls, why it matters, how it might change, and why voters should care
- A short, five-minute podcast episode covering the same material in audio form
- A display of current and historical values
- Context for governance actions where applicable
- A comment section for discussion
We believe that when someone encounters a governance proposal touching a parameter, they should be able to understand the underlying system before forming a view.
What Was Delivered
Over the course of the project, we published:
- 33 educational articles
- 33 corresponding short-form podcasts
- A dedicated Parameters Explorer landing page and structured interface
The podcast series has generated over 6,000 total listens so far and is currently averaging more than 100 listens per day. Listeners are primarily in the U.S. and Africa, but the hosting data shows engagement across all six inhabited continents.
The landing page itself has received more than 800 views. Interestingly, audio engagement significantly exceeds page traffic. Short-form podcasts appear to be an effective format for global governance education.
We also integrated incentivized “Every Epoch” quizzes tied to parameter content. Participants can connect a wallet and earn small token rewards for answering correctly. The incentive is modest, but it encourages repeated exposure to the material. Quiz participation continues each epoch.
Transparency and Memory
One of the more important features of the Explorer is the timeline view. Each parameter page shows the current setting, a record of changes with each references, and governance action context when applicable
Governance discussions can be reactive. When a proposal surfaces, conversation often focuses on the proposed change without revisiting how the parameter arrived at its current value. A historical view restores that memory. Hopefully, if we remember our past, we will not be doomed to repeat it!
Engagement Patterns
Educational content about blockchain parameters can feel dry. Parameters are about constraints and limits. Parameters are rarely glamorous and they don’t know how to party.
However, when a specific parameter becomes part of an active governance debate, engagement rises quickly. Posts on X referencing parameters in active discussion tend to generate a stronger response. In those moments, the existence of a calm explanatory resource becomes especially useful. That suggests the Explorer’s long-term value may compound over time as governance activity increases.
We also added a creative element that was not part of the original proposal: short AI-generated songs summarizing each parameter. The first eleven tracks were compiled into an album called On-Chain Melodies Volume 1. The songs are light, but factually grounded.
Next Steps
The Explorer is not a finished product in the sense that governance is not finished. As new parameters are introduced or modified, we will continue adding coverage through our normal content pipeline. If you see a parameter that we haven’t covered yet, we’d love to hear from you!
We are exploring multilingual expansion, particularly Spanish and Swahili, to broaden access in regions where English may limit reach. We also intend to reference the Explorer more directly during governance discussions so that it becomes a default orientation tool for dReps and ADA holders.
The long-term aim is modest but specific: when a parameter is proposed for change, the first step in the conversation should be understanding.
Closing Reflection
Cardano governance depends on informed participants. Parameters are adjustable settings that shape the system’s behavior. If they are poorly understood, voting becomes reactive. If they are understood, governance becomes deliberate.
The Parameters Explorer does not advocate for specific outcomes. It attempts to make sure the community knows what it is deciding about.
