RarePretty, moon-shaped closterium is a desmid - meaning it is formed by two apparent semi-cells with a shared, central nucleus. Vacuoles at each tip contain barium sulfate crystals, which bounce around energetically, their purpose unknown. Closterium appears in unpolluted waters.
