Monthly Reports

We’ve made progress with Argentinian authorities regarding our NGO’s legal status and social purpose (legal requirements that are different from the NGO mission and vision). Our initial social purpose had to be tweaked, for Argentinian law requires a social-welfare end that was not clear to Argentinian authorities in this case.

This is, from our point of view, a symptom of the institutionalized –and false- notion that a tech and innovation NGO cannot serve a worthy social purpose. The legislative requirements regarding the foundation's corporate purpose were not as advanced as we expected, so we had to make some modifications to adapt it to the prevailing guidelines.

Luckily, all the important faculties for lobbying for favorable crypto legislation are still there. We found a way to include them in this context.

We attach to this report the new social purpose.

We’ve made significant advances since our last report. • The inscription process for the NGO, that –as we stated in previous reports- is really bureaucratic and problematic, is nearly finished. Via expedient 6165 of “Dependencia de Personas Jurídicas – Tucumán” (the government agency in charge of this process) our NGO has an official name in accordance with the original proposal (Centro de Políticas Digitales). We attach a picture of the corresponding form.

• On the other hand, we’ve finally settled on a logo and a fantasy name for the NGO, that also encapsulates the efforts of project. We attach several pictures that illustrate the path from the initial draft to the final logo and fantasy name (“República Digital” or Digital Republic). This is the result of a long process with designer Delfina Folatti, who helped us achieve an aesthetic that links the political values of republicanism and the blockchain technological revolution in an early 2000 inspired glitch capitol. This is supposed to evocate the idea of the technological revolution disrupting traditional democratic institutions.

In the last month we’ve went through a profound process to find a visual identity for the NGO. In this process, we analyzed several proposals by different designers. We’ve finally reached an aesthetic understanding with Delfina Folatti.

This aesthetic will aim to show the broad horizon of our core notion: A Digital Republic that has decentralized its currency trough a technological revolution. We’ve searched for several possible designs in Behance and selected references such as this:

https://www.behance.net/collection/197948885/FRD

Delfina will work on both the NGOs logo, branding and its website.

We’ve also completed all payments related to the NGO inscription process. We are waiting now for a response from Argentinian authorities, which is estimated in the next 2 months. This compels us to postpone the workshop until march, not only because it is intended to have an institutional reach for which this legal inscription is needed, but also will give us time to finish both products that we’ve been working on as a way to introduce our NGO in the social and political stage:

• A comprehensive guide on Argentinian crypto regulations that, at the moment, are vague and ineffective. • A historiographic review of crypto-related scams and how to prevent them in order to keep the blockchain as a positive narrative in the public discourse.

We attach a receipt for NGO inscription counseling and fees.

In the past month we accomplished several milestones in the project. First, we overcame Argentinian bureaucracy by connecting with a lawyer specialized in the registration process of NGO and non-profit foundations in our country, something that helped us speed our roadmap in a hostile legal environment. The budget for this task is attached.

We also started two of our products as a foundation that is specialized in the blockchain revolution:

  1. A comprehensive legal status of crypto-related regulations in Argentina made by one of our lawyers so we can educate the general public and give strategic resources to public or private actors interested in investing in crypto. The first draft of this product is attached.

  2. A complex timeline of recent Ponzi schemes in Argentina from a historiographic point of view made by two historians and CONICET researchers (CONICET is Argentina’s biggest research center) that aims to separate and differentiate our revolution from ordinary scams, something that the public often mistakes.

These products will help us gain more legitimacy, so our efforts to achieve better crypto legislation (or to avoid legislation altogether) are more effective.

Additionally, we attended the annual conference “DescentralizAR” (or “To decentralize AR”) in the city of Pinamar – Buenos Aires province. This meeting gathers very important players from both local administration and the crypto scene. The connections made there were significant for our effort. We attach several pictures and the receipts involved.

Finally, we teamed-up with another proposal (Science Hub in Argentina – ID 800315) in order to potentiate the reach and impact of both project’s workshops.

After a process of recruiting with scientists, historians, philosophy major and lawyers, we’ve advanced in the constitution of the NGO Centro de Políticas Digitales with the incorporation of the majority of its associates.

These professionals are linked to academia, politics and the science world. Each of them is a valuable addition to the NGO, and their contributions will be vital not only on the funded events but also in all of the pro-blockchain activities the NGO undergoes in the future.

We attach the resume, profile and experience of these recruited professionals in the next section.

Following the line of our previous report, where we attached the necessary documents for the constitution and registration of the NGO, we contacted Notary Constanza Palleiro - expert in navigating the complex bureaucracy of our country- with prior experience in the registration of NEXOS ASOCIACION CIVIL, alongside our team member Dante Asseph. This will set in motion the process of approximately eight (8) months to achieve a full registration. Nevertheless, this period will not be an obstacle for any of our activities, for the beginning of the registration process allows us to operate as an association in the meantime. On the other side, we’ve interviewed and selected candidates for the workshop location from over fifteen different options. So far the most suited location is “Hotel Savoy”, a 4 stars hotel located only a block away from our National Congress with an event center for over 50 attendants. The next step is to set a date for the workshop that’s compatible with the hotel schedule. We attach the budget for the notary fee and we are still waiting for the cost structure provided by the Hotel Savoy.

We’ve started the registration process to become a formally recognized NGO in Argentina. This implied the development of the NGO object, and the enunciation of its targets, activities and purposes.

To this end, we’ve drafted the NGO constitution act, that we attach to this report. In this constitution act, among other important missions, we explicitly state that this ONG is meant to instruct policy makers on the potentiality of the blockchain technology for achieving a more transparent government (point “e”); that its part of is mission to educate the general population on pyramid schemes and other scams and how to avoid them (point “f”); and to modernize the legislation in order to make it more favorable to the blockchain revolution (point “h”). This constitution act clearly reflects the goals of our funded proposal.

We’ve also started conversations with other NGOs and policy makers (such as national congresswoman Dolores Martínez and congressman Jorge Rizzotti) to achieve the proposal goals.

This is our first report. We've completed our Proof of Life two days ago and we have not received the first round of funding yet. But we've already started meetings to set the project in motion.
