Solution

Launch training program specifically targeting women in Cameroon focusing on some Defi solutions (already funded) to address local problems.

Problem:

Women play a central role in Defi within the African local context. They are being left behind in making solutions to local problems.

[IMPACT]

In the African local context, women play a key role in designing and running local Defi solutions within their communities. Our plan is to train these women, equipping them with the right tools to put the full power of brainstorming, designing, and implementing solutions (on the blockchain) into their hands. We see a lot of potential for blockchain based solutions and think it is really vital to include more of the affected people in the process. The first step to inclusion is education. This is important as it will allow solutions to fit local mental models with higher probabilities of mass adoption.

In order for Cardano to have success in the African market we need to focus on providing use cases applicable to Africans. Then, once those use cases are operational, encouraging widespread adoption. By educating local visionary women (the ones in charge) we are ensuring that the solutions make sense to the local communities and therefore giving higher chances of mass adoption.

The main risk here is lack of interest due to time constraint and/or financial constraint. We plan to offer training for free and also will motivate participants through hackathon prizes to mitigate this risk.

[FEASIBILITY]

  • Marketing awareness campaign across Africa delivered through Wada network Hubs*
  • Visit local universities, technical schools, and high schools speaking about Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT) and Cardano in particular, bringing awareness to our program
  • Advertise on local TV and radio networks and billboards across Africa
  • Identify female candidates who meet the required profile
  • In-person program launch event in Cameroon with free childcare
  • Organize meetups
  • Organize hackathons with prizes
  • Funnel women into Wada's Haskell and Plutus training program (See fund 7 FUNDED proposal https://cardano.ideascale.com/c/idea/381332))

*Wada Hubs currently most active in: Ivory Coast, Ghana, Nigeria, Cameroon, and Democratic Republic of Congo

  • Marketing & Advertisement: $3 000
  • Hackathon prizes: $3 000
  • In person event logistics (event space, refreshments, daycare): $2 000
  • Team motivations (3 trainers $250 ea per month x 12 months): $9 000
  • Project oversight and coordination: $1 000

[AUDITABILITY]

We will track:

Number of women registered to courses and events (goal will be 50 in year 1 another 50 by year 2)

Number of women who pass certification process upon completion of the program (our goal will be that all women who enroll in our course become certified)

Fully trained will be determined by completion of Haskell+ Plutus training program and passing of certification process at the end of the courses.

Success will also be visible as high female turnout at Wada's various hackathons and other events.

Not exactly a continuation but an expansion to engage more females to our funded proposal https://cardano.ideascale.com/c/idea/381332
