The Revelar team is a known contributor & has received funding on several projects in previous Catalyst Funds. We have a growing team of engineers (15+ years) from around the world, Plutus & ATALA Pioneers, & startup experience to manage a bootstrapped project.

解决方案

Enter the Revelar Gate, it’s a managed private IPFS cluster, or gateway, to control access to your NFT media content, allowing for gated content when needed.

[IMPACT] Please describe your proposed solution.

The Revelar Gate is aiming at creating deeper utility around NFTs on Cardano with a clear use case for subscription-based models to explore choosing Cardano as a go-to blockchain for these business models. With the low-cost creation and management of these NFTs, a Gate can allow for logic layers to verify and distribute access to the media within the metadata.

Research and design a balanced system for gating content with private IPFS clusters and failover to project/creator-owned infrastructure.

This proposal covers building an MVP of the Revelar Gate which will cover:

  • Using Revelar’s minting engine to create a “Private NFT”
  • Create a custom IPFS storage cluster on Revelar as your own gateway.
  • Assigning simple verification rules to validate access.
  • Display the private NFT content.
  • Research and document a balanced system (ease of use + redundant) for gating content with private IPFS clusters and failover to project/creator-owned infrastructure.

Before we get too far, please note we address centralization concerns below in Risks.

Gating content for creators allows for new and untapped models for general NFT projects but specifically within our focus, for NFT Game Developers. While the metadata is stored on-chain, Gates would allow for authentication steps like connecting a wallet to verify your ownership when trying to view the IPFS linked content.

Gates could use NFT (A) to validate access (viewing) to the media within NFT (A) or a completely different set of NFTs (B), (C), (D)…

[IMPACT] Please describe how your proposed solution will address the Challenge that you have submitted it in.

As the Cardano NFT space matures, we have an opportunity to leverage some of the uniqueness of Cardano’s native asset interoperability and low cost to accelerate NFT Utility. This focuses on DApps that are building logic-driven NFT workflows, perhaps with validation steps, different royalty structures (other than CIP-027), and new unique ways to leverage gated content.

For this DApp Challenge, our focus is to create a relatively flexible design and service for other DApps to plug and play into their application, without having to manage custom IPFS deployments and infrastructure overhead. This allows us to empower new DApps to be created and built in the Cardano Ecosystem much faster, at a lower cost.

Success is defined in the # of “Revelar Gates” deployed in the first 12 mo, as well as discussing and finding the right balance of community-owned infrastructure long term. (Federated → Decentralized)

[IMPACT] What are the main risks that could prevent you from delivering the project successfully and please explain how you will mitigate each risk?

Our world today is full of risks, especially with the unknown nature of our global economy & workforce.

  • Centralization: In the spirit of transparency, we realize this covers specific use cases for NFTs and creates some centralization concerns with Revelar as a private service on top of Cardano. *We believe that there are ways to mitigate this long term with the same federated approach in building and proving the concept quickly, then distributing the Private IFPS deployments to community collaborators or project creators long term. Furthermore, we will investigate the best redundant path for self-hosted nodes to de-risk infrastructure reliance on Revelar.

  • NFT Standard Changes: By gating specific content, we create an edge case for platforms that are using the CIP-025 standard in loading assets to be displayed in wallets, marketplaces, explorers, etc. *To account for this, we will continue to abide by the CIP-025 standard in metadata design and provide thumbnails as public assets, with the content being gated held separately. If we discover through deeper community collaboration that a new CIP needs to be drafted and proposed, we will work to create one.

  • Software delays: Show me software shipped on time, I’ll show you software riddled with bugs. This is the largest risk with any DApp project due to the unknowns of this decentralized frontier and new technology that becomes available along the way. *Our approach is to keep it simple solving 80% of the problem early on with known systems and infrastructure approaches from our previous experience. This means limited complexity with smart contracts and a focus on scalable simple solutions with business processes (like 24/7 customer support, dedicated QA) that often save time by solving problems early and supporting customers when systems break.

[FEASIBILITY] Please provide a detailed plan, including timeline and key milestones for delivering your proposal.

Scope:

The main deliverable for this proposal is a production MVP web app that does the following:

  • Create a “Private NFT”
  • Deploy and manage a custom IPFS storage cluster on Revelar as your own gateway.
  • Assigning simple verification rules to validate access.
  • Display the private NFT content for users who meet the verification rules.
  • Creator management/support tools

Milestones for this project encompass a 6 mo timeline with 12x 2-week sprints

Sprint 1 & 2 - IPFS and system architecture design. Begin UI/UX designs.

Sprint 3 → 7 - Building custom IPFS deployment pipelines & API backend

Sprint 8 & 9 - Final UI/UX & frontend development

Sprint 10 & 11 - Revelar Launchpad access and load testing with bug fixes.

Sprint 11 & 12 - Final project Reporting, documentation, and preparation for general availability (Beta).

[FEASIBILITY] Please provide a detailed budget breakdown.

The main cost for this project is expanding our engineering team.

Since many of the API needs for this project are already core services internally with Revelar, we can eat our own dogfood and save from using an external vendor. This limits infrastructure costs greatly compared to other projects.

  • Cardano API Services: $0 (Covered by Revelar)
  • Sr. Lead Engineer: $65,000 (12 weeks full time at $135/hr)
  • Full Stack Developer: $35,000 (12 weeks full time at $73/hr)
  • Cloud Infrastructure costs: $5,250 (for 10TB bandwith testing + 2TB storage)

Total Requested: $105,250

[FEASIBILITY] Please provide details of the people who will work on the project.

[FEASIBILITY] If you are funded, will you return to Catalyst in a later round for further funding? Please explain why / why not.

This project will not likely need further funding, as it will be built to be a self-sustaining commercialized product. With several customers already waiting in the pipeline, the major barrier for us is expansion and completion of the scoped work.

[AUDITABILITY] Please describe what you will measure to track your project's progress, and how will you measure these?

Revelar has a dedicated domain to all of our Catalyst proposals, we run these as live as we can to show real-time progress, history, and modifications until we do our final reports and closeouts for each proposal. We welcome anyone to visit and audit our progress anytime - <https://catalyst.revelar.co>

For open-source code and projects, this Gitbook is automatically synced with appropriate GitHub repos for redundancy.

Since this won’t be an open-source code base, to begin with, it means our primary way of tracking and communicating progress is our Catalyst Coordinator reports which include a recorded video, a written version of the updates on our dedicated site above, along with demos as applicable of our projects after each sprint (2 weeks).

This reporting process is also a requirement for continued funding by IOG

[AUDITABILITY] What does success for this project look like?

We believe in delivering useful products for developers in the Cardano space.

Our measure of success starts by delivering on our outlined scope within the Feasibility section and extends to 35 unique “Gates” or projects being created during the Launchpad access stage, and cohort retention of > 60% through the end of the project timeline.

Successful retention is defined by a Gate being accessed or utilized for 5+ sessions within a 7-day timeline.

[AUDITABILITY] Please provide information on whether this proposal is a continuation of a previously funded project in Catalyst or an entirely new one.

Revelar has a catalogue of past proposals & their progress at: <https://catalyst.revelar.co>

The payment gateway is a brand new proposed product offering from Revelar and is not a continuation of any previous proposals. This project was APPROVED in Fund 8 but not funded due to lack of funds left in the category.

I think the idea of a subscription-based NFT business model is great. I could see large companies using this as a way to offer subscription services and get rid of the credit card middleman entirely. I would have liked to see some examples of how this could be used in the real world, as I can only make assumptions while reading the proposal. Overall, I am a fan of the idea, yet the proposal could be a bit more substantial.

Projects, especially game developers, have no way to protect the consumption of public IPFS media included in the NFT. This recommendation is a useful tool for managing private NFTs, controlling access to your NFT media content, and allowing content to be controlled as needed. The proposal describes the problem clearly and offers an appropriate solution. By creating a design and service that is relatively flexible so that other DApps can plug and play in their applications without having to manage infrastructure costs and custom IPFS implementations. This allows us to empower new DApps created and built within the Cardano Ecosystem much faster at a lower cost. Which increases the functionality and number of potential use cases for Cardano and NFT. The proposal identifies three main risks including the degree of centralization, NFT standards changes, and software delays. Measures to reduce risk are also appropriately described. The information provided in the proposal is very specific and comprehensive. I believe this proposal will effectively address the challenge if funded.

Revelar is a gaming company focusing on the NFT capabilities and the Cardano ecosystem. They have been funded in Fund 7 and Fund 8, and in Fund 9 they are back with two fresh proposals. This one focuses on building a gateway that can control access to NFT content when needed. They are aware that this functionality is not immediately applicable to all stakeholders, but the philosophy behind it is that the more functionalities NFTs can have, the better it will be for the ecosystem’s long term health and development potential.

So let’s see what benefits can gated NFTs bring: subscription based models, allowing for logic layers that can distribute content differently between multiple parties, private NFTs. The privacy / gated feature will be obtained via private IPFS clusters, basically their own infrastructure.

Let’s remember that in this challenge the aim should be to foster the development of dapps, products and integrations that can foster adoption, and this use case is definitely a step in the right direction, if it will enable additional use cases for NFTs. A slight question mark should be raised regarding the developers’ appetite for such features which is still untested, but given the wide array of possible applications it’s only fair to infer that there are minimal downsides to the ecosystem for having an extra feature on the table.

Given the still unclear potential of such a feature development, and more importantly, the fact that the technology will not be developed open source (this is confirmed in the proposal itself) and thus of limited use for the wider community at the beginning, I am only offering four stars for its potential impact.

The Private NFT Gates-Revelar proposal addresses the Dapps, Products & Integration challenge by building an MVP of the Revelar Gate (control access to your NFT media content). With the low-cost creation and management of these NFTs, a Revelar Gate can allow for logic layers to verify and distribute access to the media within the metadata. The proposal's MVP will cover: "Private NFT" and Custom IPFS storage cluster. The solution is for new and untapped models especially for the NFT game developers. Other DApps can plug and play without having to manage custom IPFS deployment and infrastructure overhead. New DApps can be created at a much faster pace but lower cost. There is no doubt that the project will benefit the ecosystem but it is not open-source code base, the score in impact section reflects this fact.

recognize the problem that the team raised is that currently, projects and game developers do not have a peer-to-peer network protocol for storing and sharing data in a distributed file system. so this proposal commits to provide a new toolkit of features such as: Use Revelar minting to create “private NFT”, Display private NFT content. and specifically this proposal would commit to providing this tool with custom IPFS storage on Revelar as the user's own gateway. with specific examples and explanations for the arguments of the proposal, along with that, the proposal team mentioned potential risks when implementing the project, including the main risks such as: Centralization, NFT Standards Changes and Software Delays, all of the risks mentioned above are proposed by the team to provide a radical solution, and those methods are perfectly valid. physical. so based on the statements and statements, commitment to providing tools and examples in the summary of this proposal, it is possible to completely solve the problem stated at the beginning of the proposal.

The team is made up of highly skilled and experienced game developers. The proposal includes details about the team and the backgrounds and qualifications of the team members. The budget is reasonable and broken down into identifiable milestones and a detailed 6-month schedule with 12x two-week sprints. The budget is a bit high, but reasonable for a team of this caliber. The proposal provides funding of $105250, half of which is to pay the lead engineer at $135 per hour for 12 weeks, which is a high amount compared to other proposals. They have the resources and technical knowledge to make this proposal work, and they have discussed in detail the potential risks, including centralization, NFT standard changes, and software delays, and have identified ways to mitigate them.

The proposal provides a clear, detailed plan with specific tasks to be achieved during the 12x2 week sprint including a schedule and milestones to be achieved every 2 weeks to create an MVP web application production does the following: Creates a "private NFT"; deploy and manage custom IPFS storage clusters on Revelar; specify simple verification rules to authenticate access and display private NFT content to users who meet the verification rules; tools to support/manage creators. The $105,250 budget is in line with the product they will be offering, the infrastructure cost reductions due to taking advantage of the core services available within Revelar are also taken into account. The entire proposed funding is used to pay the development engineer team for 12 weeks and a small part is the cost of the cloud infrastructure for bandwidth testing ($5,250). However, the budget seems to be working out for 12 weeks - half of the time to complete the proposal, my advice would be for the proposal to include clear details of other funding methods. The Revelar team is a well-known collaborator and has received funding for several projects in the Catalyst Funds in the past, they are a combination of people with rich experience in building large projects and delivering software-related products. So I believe they will complete the proposal.

Revelar has a great team. The proposal contains selected bios and multiple social media profile and contact information for the most relevant members, and so does their website. They have folks with deep mathematical and engineering backgrounds as well as marketing / business development competencies. They went to great lengths to ensure that this proposal is well understood, since they even created a short video explaining the entire concept behind.

The team also makes budgeting look easy, with the main expense being hiring additional development resources. Main costs will involve employing a senior engineer and a developer for 12 weeks, at hourly rates of 135 and respectively 73 USD. Minor other costs will fund cloud infrastructure. A strength of the proposal is that the team argues that a few features necessary for this project are already existing within the company so there will be less development needed, minimizing time and money spent.

Timeline the project should take six months (don’t be confused with the 12 weeks above) and the work will be divided in 12 sprints, with a very logical and reasonable split of activities for each.

Overall we have a solid team, a very reasonable timeline and budget, and five stars are definitely appropriate for this proposal’s feasibility.

The project timeline and key milestones (12 x 2 weeks sprints) are realistc. The pay rate and number of working hours in this project are reasonable. Team members are strong technically and they have provided their linkedin. The milestones along with the deliverables are very detail. Given all these information, it is highly likely that the project will be implemented succesfully. The team has foresee the challenge/risk of this project and find ways to mitigate them. The example of risks/challenges are centralization, NFT standard changes and software delay. The team is very upfront to say that the software delay is the largest risk for any Dapp projects due to the unknown nature of decentralized and obsolete technology. Given strong and dedicated team, it is very likely that the project will be carried out successfully.

The proposed team had plans for the implementation of an MVP web application, and provided the features stated along with the work to complete a public release tool. commits to be completed in about 6 months and has calculations for fallback time to sprint. The published proposed costs are mostly for engineers and developers, and the cloud infrastructure budget, along with the execution hours and the amount/hour for each work item is clearly divided. clear, easy to understand and ensure transparency, for example engineer salary will be higher than developer. identified the core group of the proposal consisting of 3 people and the information related to them is fully provided, both experience and resume where worked are very detailed, but if possible pay attention Like more for example assignment ; who will be the chief engineer, who will be the developer, will be specific to be able to compare with the required budget is two people 1 engineer and 1 developer so what work will they take on one person. so the group needs to add a few more details I just suggested, and in addition, based on the group's published experience of each member, this proposal is likely to be successful in the future.

The proposed solution is to create a Revelar gateway, which is a managed private IPFS cluster that controls users' access to NFT media content, allowing the content to be controlled as needed. The proposal outlines progress and milestones by month along with specific tasks that need to be completed. The project's core team consists of 3 people: Jason Toevs as CEO / Founder. Jason has a specialization in Mathematics with a focus on Set Theory. He has experience building business systems, scaling software products and teams. Benjamin Beer is CTO, Ben has a background in Computer Engineering and Electronics with a focus on both hardware and software based programming and systems design. He has extensive experience in creating decision support systems. Jacob Christian is the CCO/Co-Founder. He has a major in Entrepreneurship and Integrated Marketing Communications. Jacob is an experienced brand strategist and content creator. Thus, looking at the experience and education of the core team of the proposal, we see that the team is fully capable of ensuring a successful project launch. However, there are still some possible risks. Concerns about centralization with the Revelar portal as a private service on Cardano, NFT standards subject to change and Software delays but the team has also outlined how to fully overcome the risks this.

The proposal includes a clear timeline, but I lack clearly measurable KPIs. The time estimate for UI/UX design and architecture design is 2 weeks, which seems high. A more detailed description with more specific budget details would have added more value. The software will also not be fully open source. Therefore, more is needed for verifiability than just regular reporting. Nevertheless, there are sufficient possibilities to overview the status of the proposal via the website.

Like other Revelar projects, they have a dedicated domain for all their Catalyst proposals: https://catalyst.revelar.co - where the community can track the project's progress at any time through demos, documents, and videos are updated regularly at the end of each sprint. The definition of project success is also well described with specific metrics: deliver an MVP web application as mentioned in the feasibility section and expand to 35 “Gateways” or projects created in the Launchpad access period and cohort retention >60% until the end of the process or project. Success Retention is determined by a Gateway that is visited or used for more than 5 sessions within 7 days. Given Revelar's history of being very transparent and open to funded projects and the information they provided in this proposal, I believe the community can easily assess and audit the progress and success of the project. I rate 5 for Auditability.

There aren’t many Cardano teams that have what Revelar has already established. A dedicated Catalyst website with updates on all of their funded proposals, going back all the way to Fund 7. We have subsections with updates for each, links to the Ideascale pages and extensive dashboards presented where appropriate. So while creating this tool they have definitely positioned themselves as an excellent reference point in terms of how Catalyst reporting should look like.

Diving down into this proposal’s details, we observe that the team offers excellent success targets: 35 unique gates being created and a 60% retention at the end of the timeline - which are highly relevant and comprehensive items that serve very well their purpose. In conclusion, an excellent auditability implementation, superb Catalyst website and five well deserved stars.

The total required budget is 105250$, which is a suitable budget to launch a project to create a private NFT gateway on Cardano. In addition, the budget is explained in detail, specifically for each item of the project, calculated for each number of hours, showing that the proposed group is very close to reality. To keep track of its project progress, the team has Catalyst Coordinator reports including a recorded video, a written version of the updates on a dedicated website, along with applicable demos projects after each sprint (2 weeks). Conclusion: The project is financially transparent.
