Solution

We'll allow onchain games deployed to the Cardano ecosystem on sidechain to access NFTs that live on the L1, as well as support NFTs from other ecosystems to encourage new users to come to Cardano

Problem:

Right now games can be launched on sidechains of Cardano such as the games built by Paima Studios, but unless these games can leverage the liquidity of the Cardano L1, it is hard to monetize

This proposal was approved and funded by the Cardano Community via Project F10: Development & Infrastructure Catalyst funding round.

[IMPACT] Please describe your proposed solution.

This proposal is composed of 3 different components to be able to reference 3 different kinds of NFTs from Paima:

Paima Projection NFTs - 145k

  • Paima Projection NFT Whirlpool continued work for Cardano 75k link
  • Paima Projection NFT Whirlpool for EVM 40k link
  • Paima Projection NFT Whirlpool for Polkadot WASM nfts 30k link

Each proposal increases the viability of Paima by allowing games deployed to the Cardano ecosystem to leverage the liquidity of an increasing number of NFT ecosystems, as well as allow Cardano NFTs to be used in games hosted in other ecosystems

You can see the individual proposals for more details, but generally if you want to learn about the architecture for this system at a deeper technical level, we’ve written an Aiken smart contract for Cardano which has extensive documentation that you can find here: <https://github.com/dcSpark/projected-nft-whirlpool/>

[IMPACT] How does your proposed solution address the challenge and what benefits will this bring to the Cardano ecosystem?

This proposal will help make Cardano NFTs a key player in the growing field of onchain gaming and autonomous worlds. Notably, it will do this in two ways:

  1. Cardano NFTs will gain value as they may become usable in a lot of onchain games and autonomous worlds as a way game developers can attract the Cardano community to their game
  2. More Cardano NFTs will get minted as games that want access to a large amount of liquidity for in-game NFT will be able to natively mint them on Cardano (such as to do a mint sale) and then project them into their games

[IMPACT] How do you intend to measure the success of your project?

  1. Number of NFTs projected into a game
  2. Number of unique users projecting NFTs
  3. Number of games or apps implementing projective NFTs into their experience

[IMPACT] Please describe your plans to share the outputs and results of your project?

Each sub-proposal generally follows the trend of

  1. Open source client library
  2. Open source website to interact with the contract
  3. Open source indexer for the contractt
  4. Add projected NFT support into Paima
  5. Open source template that uses projected NFTs

[CAPABILITY/ FEASIBILITY] What is your capability to deliver your project with high levels of trust and accountability?

dcSpark and Paima Studios are well renowned companies in the Cardano ecosystem that have a long history of delivering on Catalyst proposals. You can find progress on grants we have previously received at https://dcspark.io/grants

[CAPABILITY/ FEASIBILITY] What are the main goals for the project and how will you validate if your approach is feasible?

The main goal is to make it easier to build onchain games and autonomous worlds that have a high customizability and performance while still having access to the liquidity of the Cardano NFT market. We will create an example app using Paima that integrates projected NFTs to prove feasibility

[CAPABILITY/ FEASIBILITY] Please provide a detailed breakdown of your project’s milestones and each of the main tasks or activities to reach the milestone plus the expected timeline for the delivery.

Each sub-proposal has its own timelines and milestones, but generally speaking each of them will only take a few months and, in general, are fairly parallelizable

[CAPABILITY/ FEASIBILITY] Please describe the deliverables, outputs and intended outcomes of each milestone.

The exact deliverables vary by sub-proposal, but generally speaking involve open sourcing code on Github

[RESOURCES & VALUE FOR MONEY] Please provide a detailed budget breakdown of the proposed work and resources.

145k total

Cardano NFTs from other blockchains: 75k

EVM NFTs to Cardano ecosystem: 40k

Polkadot WASM NFTs to Cardano ecosystem: 30k

[RESOURCES & VALUE FOR MONEY] Who is in the project team and what are their roles?

- dcSpark (all tools and infra)

- Paima Studios (Paima integration and template)

[RESOURCES & VALUE FOR MONEY] How does the cost of the project represent value for money for the Cardano ecosystem?

This project has a chance to significantly grow the Cardano NFT ecosystem by making it a leader in onchain gaming and autonomous worlds which is a new and exciting domain in crypto / web3

Is this project feasible based on the proposal submitted? Does the plan and associated budget and milestones look achievable? Does the team have the skills, experience, capability and capacity to complete the project successfully?

Commenter gravatar

The project's proficiency and feasibility are supported by the reputations of the two organizations involved - dcSpark and Paima Studios. Both companies have a recognized track record in the Cardano ecosystem, successfully delivering on Catalyst proposals. This experience instills trust and accountability in their ability to execute this project efficiently. The core objective of the project is to make it easier to create on-chain games and autonomous worlds while preserving high customizability and performance. To authenticate its approach, the project intends to create an example app using Paima that incorporates projected NFTs. This proof of concept will exhibit the feasibility of the proposed solution and identify any latent challenges that may arise during application. The projects thorough breakdown and milestones show that the tasks are parallelizable and can be completed within a few months. This method ensures timely delivery and reduces the risks related with dependencies and delays.

As we know, dcSpark and Paima Studios are renowned companies within the Cardano ecosystem with a long history of submitting proposals to Catalyst. I believe the team is fully capable of completing the project as outlined in the plan.

The main objectives of the project are also clearly defined: to facilitate the easy creation of onchain games and self-sovereign worlds with customizable and high-performance capabilities, while still accessing the liquidity of the Cardano NFT market.

Surprisingly, when it comes to the section detailing the milestones and each task or key activity to achieve them, along with the expected delivery timeline, it is quite lacking. We only see the proposer stating, "Each sub-proposal has its own timeline and milestones, but in general, each proposal will only take a few months and generally runs in parallel." However, there are no specified milestones listed? No activities outlined? Similarly, regarding the description of the deliverable outcomes, output, and expected results of each milestone, we have no information beyond the proposer's description: "Different sub-proposals involve delivering different products, but generally relate to open-source code on Github." This demonstrates that the information about the roadmap is very vague. In my opinion, the proposer should break down the timeline into weekly or monthly milestones and describe specific tasks within each milestone, along with the deliverable outcomes at each milestone. This way, we can better understand how the team will work and what the outcomes will be. Therefore, in terms of feasibility, we rate it as average.

Given data and proposal is not enough to exmine the feasibility of proposal. Off course by observing limited info, I couldn't able to estimate the whether the team will complete the project or not. Sorry for that, but can give you least support towards the proposal.

The project seems to be feasible as the team consists of reputed contributors with successful history in cardano ecosystem. Their plan is to improve on-chain game development with access to cardano NFT. The proposers are planning to provide an example app for validation which will be effective. Further proper milestone breakdown would have been effective not present even in sublinks at the time of reviewing the proposal.

This is a no brainer. This will will almost certainly deliver given their previous projects and funded proposals it would shock my greatly if this proposal were not successful, should they get funded.

We know that dcSpark and Palma Studios will be involved in this project but we don't know how many people will be involved, who they are and what are their skills end expertize. The time frame for the project is for 6 months and it seems that there are 3 sub-proposals that can be completed working in parallel but is difficult to assess if the team is capable to deliver them on time. More details are needed to be written in this proposal to have a clear view for what is to be done, by whom and what are the exact outputs and deliverable of this project.

As proposer given details about his team members who will be working for 6 months are very well known within community from long time. The Sebastian and Nicolas are very well know for the work and delivering the projects. As they have given e major solutions for projections in Paima gaming it looks good. As DCspark and paima are very well known for there companies and products and they have very long history working with catalyst community ,so there wont be question about there capacity and experience, They have given many projects already delivered on time. As there wont be risks involved so i believe feasibility is high.

Is the funding amount requested for this project reasonable and does it provide good Value for Money to the Treasury?

Commenter gravatar

Moving on to the budget analysis, the requested amount is 650,000 ADA, equivalent to a total of 145k USD, and the main activities proposed are: "Cardano NFTs from other blockchains: 75k, EVM NFTs for the Cardano ecosystem: 40k, Polkadot WASM NFTs for the Cardano ecosystem: 30k." This section is highly anticipated as the amount is not divided into multiple parts, but the information provided is brief and lacking. We don't know how much his hourly work will be worth, how many hours he will dedicate to it each week? We know the project spans 6 months; however, without these technical parameters, it's impossible to determine whether the requested amount is reasonable, as we don't know the monthly salary and hourly work rate of the developer.

Finally, speaking about the team, unfortunately, the information provided is quite scarce. All we know is the names of the dcSpark and Paima Studios teams; we don't know their professional track record or the nationalities of individual team members. We would need a concise CV for each person included here to get an idea of what they have done so far, how they are related to Cardano (meaning if they have any connection to our blockchain, etc.). Due to the lack of information, there isn't much trust in this team. Therefore, in my opinion, this section of the proposal needs improvement in all key aspects (scenario, budget, and team).

Therefore, whether this project has the potential to significantly develop the Cardano NFT ecosystem and bring value to the Cardano blockchain is a big question that needs to be answered in more detail.

In any case, we need to understand how the platform will create positive contributors to our community, alongside increasing the number of digital wallets and NFTs minted on our network. Will NFTs be sold for Ada? Qualitative and quantitative (and possibly verifiable) data will need to be collected, aggregated, and presented to the rest of our community. This can be done by participating in a post-Town Hall meeting, for example. Therefore, I believe the value proposition is moderate, the figures provided are indeed helpful, but not sufficient for us to conduct proper auditability of progress and success.

The project cost analysis of 145k Cardano (ADA) tokens looks reasonable considering the probable impact of the project on the Cardano NFT ecosystem. The distribution of funds across different components, such as 75k for Cardano NFTs from other blockchains, 40k for EVM NFTs integration, and 30k for Polkadot WASM NFTs integration, signifies a strategic distribution of resources to attain the intended goals. The project team consists of two reputable organizations - dcSpark and Paima Studios. Their roles are well-defined, with dcSpark handling tools and infrastructure, and Paima Studios focusing on Paima integration and templates. The team's knowledge and experience in the Cardano ecosystem increases the project's value for money. The cost-effectiveness of the project is dependent in its potential to elevate Cardano's position in the on-chain gaming and autonomous worlds domain. By encouraging interoperability and expanding the utility of Cardano-based NFTs, the project has the capacity to draw new users, developers, and projects to the Cardano ecosystem. This improved engagement and growth in the NFT market can result in a substantial return on investment for the Cardano community as a whole.

Budget amount requested is about 650000 ADA, which is huge amount to be paid off. And off course it'll need much more breakdown structure and well suited project plan. By looking current proposal observation I would not say that it'll give value for money to the Cardano treasury, Thank you.

The finding amount requested is 650000 ADA, the proposal however doesn't add much light on the value for money section hence it is difficult to validate the same, however considering the fact that dcSpark and Paima Studios leading the project efficiency and deliverability can be expected on the proposal hence adds value for the ADA invested and rating high only because of that as funding this will actually lead to real contribution to the ecosystem. However I request the tram to put up a rather decent proposal with details included regarding both milestones and detailed budget breakdown (which are currently missing even in sublinks) for new voters to take call.

The proposer has provided how they will be spending there money in dollars 140K $ which is 650K ADA , as they have divided money into Cardano NFTs from other blockchains , EVM NFTs and Polkadot WASM NFTs to Cardano eco systems. Ae dcSpark and Paima Studios are bigger companies with bigger infra there wont be doubt in there experience and capacity of money handling. The project will boost significant growth in Cardano NFT which in turn increases the users. As for KPIs calculating progress number of NFTs in games, unique users , games, experiences can be counted, SO i feel project is value for money.

It seems obvious to give this proposal the highest value/money ratio possible, the teams track record is self-explanatory, their products are stellar and widely used in the ecosystem and this seams like a no-brainer to fund.

The requested budget of 650000 ADA is spread across all 3 sub-proposal and it seems that some external funds will be available from other sources. Based on the way the budget is presented it is very unclear on what resources will be spent (working hours, human and non-human resources etc.). The team members should be nominated and verifiable resources of their work/skills should be presented to be available for all outsiders. It is difficult to assess the delivered value for money for this project as this proposal lacks in providing useful information.

Has this project clearly demonstrated in all aspects of the proposal that it will positively impact the Cardano Ecosystem?

Commenter gravatar

The project suggests a solution that aims to boost the Cardano ecosystem's potential by allowing on-chain games deployed to the platform to access NFTs from various other ecosystems. This method is designed to proliferate the viability of the Paima platform through three different components: Paima Projection NFTs, which includes Whirlpool for Cardano, EVM, and Polkadot WASM NFTs. By facilitating interoperability between different ecosystems, this project not only allows game developers to leverage the liquidity of multiple NFT markets but also inspire new users to join the Cardano ecosystem. The impact of this project is vital. Primarily, Cardano NFTs gain value as they become usable in numerous on-chain games and autonomous worlds. This feature enables game developers to attract the Cardano community to their games, enhancing the utility and appeal of Cardano-based NFTs. Secondly, the proposal promotes the minting of more Cardano NFTs. Games that need access to a large amount of liquidity for in-game NFTs can natively mint them on Cardano and then project them into their games, expanding the NFT ecosystem on the platform

This proposal is quite intriguing, as it involves creating a framework for onchain games deployed within the Cardano ecosystem on a sidechain that accesses existing NFTs on L1, as well as supporting NFTs from other ecosystems to incentivize new users to come to Cardano. The proposal is divided into three distinct parts to reference three different types of NFTs from Paima. In each case, the proposals enhance the viability of Paima by enabling games to be deployed within the Cardano ecosystem to leverage the liquidity of the increasing number of NFT ecosystems and also allowing the use of Cardano NFTs in games hosted in other ecosystems.

In the latter case, we know that by becoming an NFT, the design cannot be altered and perhaps even greater value might be added, as it's clearly original and unique. For instance, even during the concept phase, buyers might find it intriguing that this design could undergo minor modifications (e.g., simplifying some parts that end users might add themselves or even adding supplementary explanations).

Overall, this idea aligns well with the challenge's objectives, as it will create a "fast online prototyping platform that encourages Creators and provides a red thread back to the industry, while users will be able to turn their ideas into NFTs." This proposal will help transform Cardano NFTs into a significant factor in the online gaming realm and the evolving metaverse. In other words, building this platform certainly meets what is sought in the Dapps challenge, as the presentation of the idea and interface can attract new members to our community and increase the number of active tokens being minted within our network.

The success of the project is measured by factors such as the expected number of NFTs in a game, the number of unique users predicting NFTs, the number of games or apps deploying projective NFTs into their experience. For these reasons, I believe the impact of the proposal is positive.

This proposal would have a massive impact on cardano and cardano NFT adoption. As the underlying blockchain fades away into the background and abstracted away thanks to Paima gaming engine, cardano stands to benefit since many will not even bother with cardano projects, this will be a nice trojan horse for adoption.

It seems that this project it's about bringing a solution that will help to monetize the use of NFTs and to support the use io NFTs from other blockchains thus bringing new users to the Cardano ecosystem. Some metrics are defined to measure the impact of this proposal but being numbers a values should be set as expectations for a predefined period of time (especially for new users from other blockchains). The output of the project will be partially open source but is somehow unclear how the results will be shared to the community. I found the impact of this project to be at an acceptable level.

This project is like sprinkling magic NFT dust on Cardano! They're creating special NFTs called Paima Projection NFTs that will make Cardano games super awesome! Players can use these NFTs in different games, making them more fun and valuable. And guess what? It's not just great for players but also for game developers! They can make money and attract more players to their games with these cool NFTs. But have one concern, the project's success depends on game developers and platforms using it. Some existing NFT ecosystems might feel like it's a rival, but we can handle it! Making sure our code is safe and works well is super important. Also, we need a clever plan to let everyone know about the awesome Paima Projection NFTs. Appriciate the proposal idea.

The proposer of the project is a well known contributor in cardamo ecosystem and the proposal aims to integrate Paima projection NFTs into cardamo chain ecosystem inorder for usage in onchain gaming worlds. Through this and underlying aub proposals the propose to also allow native minting of NFTs on cardano, expanding the pool of available NFTs They have also provided parameters such as number of NFTs projected into games to measure the success of project. This project positively impacts the cardano ecosystem by increasing NFT adoption across a wide range of games contributing to growth of ecosystem.

The proposal we have here looks attractive as its talking about games which built on different chains such as Paina studios to Cardano so that increase liquidity in Cardano which is hard to monetize, as solution provided by Sebastien Guillemot and his team allowing sidechains with inchain to access the NFT and support NFTs from sidechain and outer cardano members to onboard them to Cardano looks great idea. As solution provided by team to onboard 3 different NFTSs from Paima looks attractive. As proposal wants to make Cardano NFT as key player looks very realistic and attractive. As Number of NFTs will be projected into a game it will create big Impact on community, I agree impact is high.
