Solution

The BAIVS is a Cardano-based solution using Plutus and Atala PRISM for secure, decentralized biometric verification to manage staff access within buildings.

Problem

Current identity systems are centralized, vulnerable to hacking, and inefficient. Companies struggle with secure staff access as traditional ID cards and passwords are often shared or lost.

Biometric Access Identity Verification System (BAIVS) – A Customizable Blockchain-Based Solution for Secure Corporate Access Control on Cardano

Please describe your proposed solution

The Biometric Access and Identity Verification System (BAIVS) will:

  1. Biometric Verification:
  2. Utilize biometric methods (fingerprint, facial recognition, retina scan, etc.) to ensure secure and precise identity verification for employees accessing different parts of a company’s building.
  3. Decentralized Identity Verification with Atala PRISM:
  4. Integrate Atala PRISM for decentralized identity management, enabling companies to store employee credentials securely on the Cardano blockchain, ensuring only verified individuals can access certain areas.
  5. Customizable Access Control:
  6. Companies will be able to define custom access rules for employees. For example, certain employees can be granted access to specific departments, floors, or rooms based on their credentials, with access permissions managed via Plutus smart contracts.
  7. Blockchain-backed Access Logs:
  8. Each time an employee accesses a restricted area, an immutable log is created on the Cardano blockchain, ensuring that companies can track access in real-time, creating a tamper-proof access history.
  9. Enhanced Privacy and Security:
  10. Unlike centralized solutions, BAIVS ensures that employee credentials are not stored in vulnerable central servers. Instead, their credentials are decentralized and securely managed on the Cardano blockchain.
  11. Hardware Integration:
  12. BAIVS will be integrated with biometric hardware (such as fingerprint or facial recognition scanners) already deployed by the companies, providing an easy and seamless transition to blockchain-backed identity management.
  13. Company-specific Customization:
  14. The system will offer customizable access settings, allowing companies to define which areas of their building certain employees can access. These custom rules can be adjusted in real-time by the company’s admin, ensuring flexibility.
  15. Scalability:
  16. The system is designed to scale as the company grows, handling multiple employees and access points without performance issues, leveraging the scalability of Cardano’s Ouroboros protocol.

Please define the positive impact your project will have on the wider Cardano community

BAIVS will:

  • Showcase Cardano as a viable and secure blockchain for enterprise solutions, particularly in the areas of identity and access management.
  • Encourage the adoption of blockchain-based identity systems across industries, promoting privacy and decentralization.
  • Provide companies with an innovative way to secure their premises, boosting trust in decentralized identity systems.
  • Create a decentralized, tamper-proof system that protects sensitive employee data while ensuring secure access control.
  • Provide long-term value by reducing security breaches caused by outdated, centralized access control systems.

Measuring Success:

  • Number of companies onboarded to use BAIVS.
  • Volume of biometric access records stored on the Cardano blockchain.
  • Feedback from companies on security improvements and ease of use.

What is your capability to deliver your project with high levels of trust and accountability? How do you intend to validate if your approach is feasible?

Our team includes:

  • Osita Ogbonna – Blockchain Developer, Credential Verification Lead: Skilled in smart contract development and Cardano integration.
  • Justin Chuka – Project Lead, Strategy, UX/UI: Extensive experience in product development and user experience design.

Validation and Feasibility:

  • Initial pilot phase with select companies to test the system.
  • Gathering real-time feedback and iterating on user experience.
  • Integration with Atala PRISM and Plutus for identity verification and access control will ensure secure, tamper-proof access management.

What are the key milestones you need to achieve in order to complete your project successfully?

Milestone 1: Milestone 1: Platform Design and Biometric Hardware Integration (2 months)

Objective: Design user interface and integrate biometric hardware for access control.

Deliverables: Finalized UI/UX design, biometric hardware integration plan.

Milestone 2: Milestone 2: Cardano and Atala PRISM Integration (5 months)

Objective: Integrate decentralized identity verification using Atala PRISM and smart contracts for access control.

Deliverables: Fully functional backend with Cardano blockchain integration.

Milestone 3: Milestone 3: Pilot Testing with Selected Companies (2 months)

Objective: Launch pilot with selected companies to test the platform's functionality in a live setting.

Deliverables: Feedback report, real-time access logs, and identity verification results.

Final Milestone: Final Milestone: Full System Deployment and Scaling (1 month)
