Cardano Browser: Your Gateway to the Cardano Ecosystem - Earn ADA While Browsing, Block Ads or Get Paid to Watch

Please describe your proposed solution

I want to build a Cardano Browser, similar to Brave, but with a stronger focus on Cardano's blockchain ecosystem. Like Brave, which offers a privacy-first browser with the ability to earn BAT for viewing ads, our browser will feature built-in incentives for users to earn ADA for watching advertisements. The browser will also include key functionalities that specifically cater to the needs of the Cardano community:

  1. Built-in Cardano Wallet: Users can seamlessly interact with the Cardano blockchain without needing external wallets, ensuring a smoother and more secure experience for blockchain transactions.
  2. Adblocker & Earn ADA for Ads: A customizable adblocker will give users control over their browsing experience. For those who opt-in, they can earn ADA by viewing curated ads, providing an incentive for users while still maintaining privacy.
  3. Open-Source & Security: Security is a top priority. The browser will be fully open-source, enabling transparency and allowing the community to inspect, audit, and contribute to the codebase. By not allowing third-party plugins, we reduce the risk of security issues, keeping the browser lightweight and safe from attacks. Users can trust that the browser is secure, as all its features will be open for public review.
  4. Curated Cardano Ecosystem Resources: The browser will feature a curated list of Cardano resources, decentralized applications (dApps), and projects. This will serve as an entry point for users to explore and engage with the growing Cardano ecosystem, making it easier to discover new opportunities, tools, and innovations.

By blending these features, the Cardano Browser will provide a secure, rewarding, and privacy-focused web experience, with the added benefit of seamless integration into the Cardano ecosystem. This browser will not only enhance the experience for Cardano users but also be a vital tool for driving mass adoption of the Cardano blockchain, offering an accessible entry point for the general public, where users can easily earn ADA for free by watching ads.

Please define the positive impact your project will have on the wider Cardano community

The Cardano Browser will positively impact the Cardano community by providing a secure and convenient way to interact with the blockchain. By offering a seamless, secure browsing experience, it will promote the adoption of Cardano’s blockchain, allowing users to easily interact with dApps. Additionally, the browser’s built-in wallet and earning potential will attract new users and contribute to the overall growth of the Cardano network.

What is your capability to deliver your project with high levels of trust and accountability? How do you intend to validate if your approach is feasible?

With 20 years of experience in developing web applications, I have a solid foundation in various programming languages, including Rust, JavaScript, Java, and C++. My expertise in building robust and scalable applications ensures that I can effectively deliver a high-quality Cardano browser project.

I am committed to developing a transparent project where progress is consistently documented and testable whenever possible. This approach ensures accountability and allows for community engagement, enabling users to monitor advancements and provide feedback throughout the development process.

What are the key milestones you need to achieve in order to complete your project successfully?

Milestone 1: Project Setup and Prototype Development:

In this phase, I will establish the foundational infrastructure for the Cardano Browser. This includes setting up the development environment, choosing the necessary tools and frameworks, and outlining the core architecture for the browser.

Once the infrastructure is in place, I will build a functional prototype of the browser that incorporates the basic browsing capabilities, along with initial stubs for future features like wallet integration, ad blocking, and ADA rewards. (2 months)

Acceptance Criteria: Functional Prototype

Evidence of Milestone Completion:

  • Downloadable and usable Prototype
  • Github repository: public code

Milestone 2: Wallet Integration:

Implement seamless integration of the built-in Cardano wallet into the browser for secure transactions. (2 months)

Acceptance Criteria:

Functional Cardano Wallet Integration: The browser includes a built-in Cardano wallet that supports secure sending, receiving, and storing of ADA.

Evidence of Milestone Completion:

• Downloadable Prototype: A new version of the browser with functional wallet integration.

• Github Repository: public code

Milestone 3: Ad Blocker Integration:

Develop and incorporate an ad-blocking feature to enhance user experience. (2 months)

Acceptance Criteria:

• Functional Ad Blocker: The browser has an integrated ad-blocking feature that effectively blocks ads during web browsing.

Evidence of Milestone Completion:

• Downloadable Prototype: A version of the browser with the ad-blocker feature implemented.

• Github Repository: public code

Milestone 4: Paid Advertisement System:

Create and integrate a system for users to earn ADA by viewing advertisements. (3 months)

Acceptance Criteria:

Functional ADA Reward System: Users can opt to view ads and earn ADA rewards within the browser.

Evidence of Milestone Completion:

• Downloadable Prototype: A version of the browser with the ADA rewards system.

• Github Repository: public code

Final Milestone: Testing, Security Audit, and Public Launch:

Conduct comprehensive testing involving real users to gather feedback on usability, performance, and security. This phase will include a security audit to ensure the browser meets all safety standards before the public launch. (3 months)

Acceptance Criteria:

Successful Testing and Audit: Comprehensive testing is completed, and a security audit confirms the browser meets safety standards.

Evidence of Milestone Completion:

• Test Results: Documentation of user feedback and testing outcomes.

• Public Launch Announcement: A public release of the browser.

• Short Video showcasing the working browser and its features.

Who is in the project team and what are their roles?

I am leading this project independently, a deliberate choice to maintain agility in both decision-making and development. This approach allows me to streamline the process, make quick adjustments, and focus on the project’s core features without delays. Additionally, I have strong connections with UX designers who can assist in creating an intuitive and user-friendly design for the browser, ensuring that the project benefits from expert input in this area. I also have solid relationships with other developers, allowing me to seek technical advice when needed, ensuring the project’s success from both design and development perspectives.

Please provide a cost breakdown of the proposed work and resources

The requested funds for this project primarily aim to support my full-time dedication to the development of the Cardano Browser. The breakdown of the budget is as follows:

  1. Basic Financial Support: The majority of the budget will be allocated to provide basic financial support as a solo developer, allowing me to focus entirely on the project. Completing such an ambitious project as a side hustle presents significant challenges, making it crucial to meet the milestones.
  2. Hosting and Domain Costs: A portion of the budget will be set aside for necessary hosting services and domain registration for the project website. This ensures that users have access to reliable resources and documentation regarding the browser. (5k)
  3. UX Design Support: A small amount of funding will be allocated for collaborating with UX designers. Their expertise will enhance the user experience and interface of the browser, ensuring it is intuitive and user-friendly. (5k)

The Cardano Browser project will utilize various libraries and frameworks, which is common for software applications, to ensure optimal functionality. However, there are no dependencies on specific companies or individuals, ensuring full independence and transparency.

How does the cost of the project represent value for money for the Cardano ecosystem?

  1. Improved User Engagement: With features like a built-in wallet, ad blocker, and the opportunity to earn ADA for watching ads, the browser incentives users to engage more deeply with the Cardano ecosystem. This heightened interaction can lead to increased transaction volume, benefiting everyone involved in the network.
  2. Open-Source Commitment: The project’s open-source nature fosters transparency and invites community participation. Users will have the ability to review, contribute to, and audit the code, which enhances trust and encourages collaboration. This commitment to openness ensures a reliable and secure browsing tool for the Cardano community.
  3. Facilitating Ecosystem Growth: The browser serves as an accessible gateway for new users, making it easier to explore decentralised applications (dApps) and other resources within the Cardano ecosystem. By simplifying access, the browser can attract a broader audience, driving increased activity and innovation in the network.
