Solution

DegaFund will be a blockchain-based crowdfunding platform accessible to African beneficiaries and donors from all over the world having identity verification of beneficiaries to prevent fraud.

Problem

In the case of Ethiopia platforms have been subject to fraudulent issues with Gofundme because its accounts are not accessible to Ethiopians and the rest of Africa plus it lacks smart contracts.

[IMPACT] Please describe your proposed solution.

It is usual to see calls for help in medical cases in Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia. These calls are allowed by the city Police after looking at the medical evidence. The trend is to post pictures that show the story of the patient on a minivan standing by the side of a street and speaking using megaphones to get the attention of people. Then, donators put 5, 10, 50, and above birr in the box. Because of a couple of reasons, this kind of call for help is not successful to get the medical expenses required. We have proposed a fundraising solution that will be built on Cardano named DegaFund. DegaFund is an Ethiopian crowdfunding system that leverages the advantage of third-generation Blockchain decentralized applications (DApps). DegaFund will be an easy-to-use system for Ethiopian fundraisers of mainly medical cases and donators can be from all over the world. Even if DegaFund is an Ethiopian system the architecture is international, it can be easily customized to any country. DegaFund is free from hard currency transactions; it will use digital currency instead. Using a Blockchain financial solution will make DegaFund more secure and hard for fraud.

[FEASIBILITY] If you are funded, will you return to Catalyst in a later round for further funding? Please explain why / why not.

We are visioning to grow for all Africa starting from Ethiopia and once we launch our project in Ethiopia we will be back for funding to grow to other countries.

[AUDITABILITY] Please describe what you will measure to track your project’s progress, and how will you measure these?

[AUDITABILITY] What does success for this project look like?

When DegaFund replaces those two means of calling for help. (No-1): the traditional way of using minivans. (No-2): finding a family or friend abroad in America and Europe to open a GoFundMe account.

[AUDITABILITY] Please provide information on whether this proposal is a continuation of a previously funded project in Catalyst or an entirely new one.
