Solution

A platform where you all can use video-presence, cards and chips to advance, champion and challenge ideas. The best ideas surface. None are neglected.

Problem:

DAOs make decisions.

Good decisions require good discussions.

Threaded message platforms are slow and labor intensive.

Live discussions are often more engaging but subject to disorder and domination.

[IMPACT] Please describe your proposed solution.

We propose a gamified platform for realtime discussion of ideas.

It is like Zoom: Many participants attend - using video, audio and chat. Only one can speak at a time.

Unlike Zoom, the dLiber8 platform is built to conduct structured discussions that reach conclusions.

dLiber8 is made to advance and challenge ideas, not personalities nor factions.

100% decentralized, It offers its players gamified mechanics that steer the conversation and allocate speaker time in accordance to an idea's support, or its novelty.

[IMPACT] Please describe how your proposed solution will address the Challenge that you have submitted it in.

Challenge:

There are no better ways to manage your DAO than to use Cardano DAOs. From Small Business to Global Communities.. Cardano DAOs deliver.

Cardano offers DAOs a unique advantage as the home turf of dLiber8.

1

Number of Communities engaged in collaboration using Cardano DAO creation tools.

Today's collab tools support asynchronous text-based deliberation.

That's good enough for some DAOs

But many more DAOs will thrive when they get realtime video deliberation.

2

Amount of ADA coming from DAOs transaction fees after the solutions on this challenge get implemented (> than the challenge's allocated fund amount)

We don't want a bigger slide of the pie. No thanks.

We want a bigger pie. We want more pies. We want to bake pies faster.

3

Number of DAOs that use Cardano as governance/management chain in 6 months.

Can't wait to count 'em.

4

Number of DAO toolset/frameworks available for DAO Ops (>1).

dLiber8 will surely increment this number

[IMPACT] What are the main risks that could prevent you from delivering the project successfully and please explain how you will mitigate each risk?

<u>PRODUCT RISKS</u>

SOCKPUPPETRY / NAMESQUATTERY / SPOOFERY

Any system that attempts to distribute resources equitably faces the threat of identity abuse, (for example) the individual who maintains multiple accounts in order to control an illegitimately large resource pool.

mitigation

We will not solve all the challenges of Web3.0. We will not even accept them.

Whenever possible, we will outsource all technology not unique to us by cooperating rather than competing with incumbent tech. For example, we conduct no voting - that goes to Snapshot. We defer to ENS for name resolution, etc.

<u>PROJECT RISKS</u>

DEV RISK

Every software development project involves risk.

mitigation

Track Record: i have led many software projects

  • single man to 150 contributors
  • on-prem, remote, hybrid, multi-national/multi-team
  • $0USD- $3,000,000USD
  • agile, waterfall
  • imperative, functional, OOP, assembler

Plenty of market failures 🙁- but NO DEV FAILURES

HASKELL TALENT SHORTAGE

There are few freelance Haskell Programmers available

mitigation

Out team has the proven talent to develop functional code in house.

NEURO BREAK

Our team is committed to neurodiversity.

That stance has inherent risk.

But our quest for inclusion, and our appetite for ideation, demands we embrace this risk.4

[FEASIBILITY] Please provide a detailed plan, including timeline and key milestones for delivering your proposal.

Using agile project management, we will address each of these milestones in 2-4 two week sprints.

All five milestones will be achieved in 5-7 month period.

<u>MS.1: DESIGN</u>

On-prem tabletop testing proves the model. Iteration improves it.

Game team and testers implement the game rules manually.

tabletop tech: index cards and poker chips

<u>MS.2: APP </u>

MS 1 Cards & Chips system is digitized, and used to power further on-prem tabletop sessions .

Complex logic powers idea proposal, support, challenge, interruption, etc.

browser tech: html, css, javascript

<u>MS.3: NETWORK</u>

MS 2 app is made multiplayer, each player sees public and private displays.

Account management keeps track of stakes, wins and losses.

cloud tech: lambda/function, serverless, realtime db

<u>MS.4: VIDEO </u>

MS 3 app is made fully remote with peer-to-peer video.

Advocating players appear as video cards on all game screens.

vid tech: webRTC, Jitsi

<u>MS.5: WEB 3.0</u>

MS 4 distributed-presence game now employs Cardano ground-truth infrastructure.

Optionally, digital chips are native coins

blockchain tech: ouroboros, haskell, marlowe

[FEASIBILITY] Please provide a detailed budget breakdown.

  • PRODUCT DEV MANAGER 6 MONTHS @ $1000 $ 6000
  • CLIENT CODE DEV 400 HOURS @ $35 $14000
  • WEBRTC CODE DEV 200 HOURS @ $40 $ 8000
  • HASKELL NETWORK CODE DEV 200 HOURS @ $50 $10000
  • NODE.JS BACKEND CODE DEV 200 HOURS @ $45 $ 9000
  • COMMUNITY MANAGER 6 MONTHS @ $1500 $ 9000
  • TEST SUBJECTS 200 SESSIONS @ $50 $10000

All freelance rates listed here are modest rates for accomplished mid-career code developers in the southeast United States. Similarly, time estimates reflect expectations from accomplished developers.

For various reasons, we frequently work with young and inexperienced talent who earn less money but require proportionally more time.

[FEASIBILITY] Please provide details of the people who will work on the project.

Dov Jacobson

hands-on product manager, front end developer

30+ years experience leading

Michelle Kim

project/community/test manager

2 years experience with this team in similar roles

Jon Dameron

front end/ GUI/ user experience

9 years experience with the team

Jesse Jacobson

technology strategist/ backend and functional programming/ math

16 years experience with the team

[FEASIBILITY] If you are funded, will you return to Catalyst in a later round for further funding? Please explain why / why not.

I certainly hope so.

This initial funding will help us build and test a functional prototype dApp.

If we succeed, we will return to fund the challenges of scale: (eg: deeper testing, fine tuning, community management and platform promotion.)

[AUDITABILITY] Please describe what you will measure to track your project's progress, and how will you measure these?

Our milestone schedules trigger the release of funds.

Although the milestones have unequal duration, the budget splits are uniform.

<u>MS.0: LAUNCH</u>

product: motivated and skilled staff, including test crew

proof: roster

<u>MS.1: DESIGN</u>

product: refined rule-set

proof: logs of increasingly satisfying test sessions

<u>MS.2: APP </u>

product: prototype app

proof: logs of completely app-driven test sessions

<u>MS.3: NETWORK</u>

product: multiplayer app

proof: automated logs of gameplay across network

<u>MS.4: VIDEO </u>

product: video-integrated multiplayer app

proof: screencast recording of video-first networked session

<u>MS.5: WEB 3.0</u>

product: cardano-grounded, video-integrated multiplayer app

proof: blockchain entries

[AUDITABILITY] What does success for this project look like?

Success means that during the discussion, each participant enjoys a voice, real agency and a view of all proposed ideas.

Success means our platform is well known, trusted and frequently used by organizations when they need to achieve consensus on critical decisions.

Initial success: Meetings take place on dLiber8 rather than Zoom, Meet, Teams, Jitsi, etc.

Mature success: These platforms all feature dLiber8 as an extension/plugin/app.

Ultimate success: dLiber8 links these Web2.5 platforms to Cardano Web 3.0 infrastructure.

[AUDITABILITY] Please provide information on whether this proposal is a continuation of a previously funded project in Catalyst or an entirely new one.

entirely new one.
