Problems with digital certificates
In previous years, the growing trend of digital certificates could be noticed, however this solution also has its limitations. Some of the possible issues with regular digital certificates include the risk of tampering or manipulation of certificate data, leading to doubts about their authenticity. Additionally, traditional digital certificates may rely on a centralized authority for issuance and verification, which can introduce a single point of failure and compromise security. Moreover, the lack of transparency and immutability in regular digital certificates can raise concerns about their reliability and trustworthiness, especially in situations where the integrity of the issuing entity may be questioned.

The Global Skill Certification Platform, powered by Cardano, aims to revolutionize how educational certifications are managed by offering a decentralized, blockchain-based platform where online education platforms can integrate and issue tamper-proof, verifiable certifications.
How the Platform Works:
- Integration API: Our platform provides an API that any educational platform (e.g., Coursera, Udemy, Cardano Academy, Creadly etc.) can integrate into their system. When a student completes a course, the educational provider can automatically issue a blockchain-based certificate via our platform.
- Blockchain-Based Certificates: These certificates are immutable and publicly verifiable through the Cardano blockchain. Each certificate contains cryptographic proof of completion, details about the course, instructor, and student, and a timestamped verification of achievement.
- Identity & Skill Validation: Each user is issued a digital identity linked to their achievements. This identity can store multiple certifications over time and serve as a verifiable skill portfolio for employers, institutions, and governments to trust without relying on third-party verification.
- Employer & Institutional Interface: We will also provide an easy-to-use interface for employers and institutions to verify the authenticity of credentials in real-time, significantly reducing hiring fraud and manual verification.

Key Steps and Technical Solution:
1. Integration API for Educational Platforms:
The platform will provide easy-to-integrate REST APIs or SDKs (Software Development Kits) for online educational websites. These APIs will enable educational platforms to seamlessly connect to the Cardano blockchain and push their certification data securely. By offering SDKs in popular programming languages (Python, JavaScript, etc.), integration will be simplified for existing educational platforms.
Example Process:
- Once a student completes a course on an educational website (e.g., Coursera, Udemy), the website will use the API to send and get the student’s details, course information, and completion status to the blockchain.
- The data will then be hashed and stored on the Cardano blockchain, providing a tamper-proof certificate that is publicly verifiable.
2. Blockchain Certificate Creation:
For each completed course, a unique cryptographic hash will be generated from the user’s certification data (name, course details, completion date, etc.). This hash will be written onto the Cardano blockchain, ensuring that it cannot be altered or tampered with. The actual certificate data will remain securely stored in a centralized server (off-chain) with only the hash stored on-chain.

How it works:
- Users will receive a unique link or QR code associated with their certification, which can be shared with third parties.
- When a third party visits the verification portal, they can input the certificate details to retrieve the hashed record from the blockchain, confirming that it matches the issued certificate.
4. User Dashboard & Digital Identity:
The platform will include a user dashboard where learners can manage all their blockchain-issued certificates. This dashboard will be integrated with Atala PRISM (Cardano’s decentralized identity solution) to give users full control over their educational credentials, making them portable across platforms and jurisdictions.
Technical Details:
