Solution

Create a youth organization that captivates them with Go-Ped racing while also educating them about blockchain, finance, and Cardano.

Problem

For blockchain to achieve global adoption, we need to start educating the next generation now. But how can you make kids interested in it?

[IMPACT]

If you grew up in the 90s you are probably familiar with Go-Peds. They are motorized, gas powered scooters and are an absolute blast to race and ride around on. Well they have been making a comeback lately and we have a local community that gets together with all of our kids to race, BBQ, and have fun. After doing this the last year, we have been getting consistent feedback from the kids who join about how much fun it is and if they can bring their friends, which has been making our small group grow larger and larger. We decided we did not just want to race and BBQ, but also educate these young impressionable minds in finance and blockchain, as we feel this is something extremely important to get an early start on. We have decided we would like to make this an official community with formalized lesson plans as well as racing meet ups. And we would like our lesson plans to focus on Blockchain and Cardano.

We are in the Bay Area, in the heart of Silicon Valley. A place that has a long history of technological innovation and where a large number of popular tech startups got their start. The youth here will all grow into adults who will be going into the workforce. Some will start their own companies, some will go into finance or Venture Capital, some will work for the big tech firms in the area. Having this next generation growing up with Cardano will ensure that they keep this interest and have Cardano in mind at work. They will be the ones who will be incorporating Cardano into their new payment system or using decentralized identity to help supplement their insurance business. We truly feel that by getting the interest of this younger generation, we will ensure that Cardano is truly adopted and become mainstream.

In the past we have found that trying to teach or educate our kids about finance topics doesn’t really go far and they usually end up zoning out after a few minutes. But by having a race day where they can have fun, meet other kids, and learn together has really been having a lot of success. They have been attentive, engaging, asking questions, and even applying what they have been learning by downloading wallets. It is because of this that we feel having formalized lessons to go over during our race days on blockchain and Cardano specifically will keep them attentive and interested.

Our main challenge will be growing our community. Without new members we will not succeed. We are currently setting up multiple social media accounts. With the use of social media platforms we will be able reach a much larger audience. Once we have these accounts fully operational we will be posting content which will be shared by other members and our presence will continue to grow.

Detailed Timeline

Example:

1 month: In the first month we will have completed building the website and all of the promotional materials. We will have began advertising to create interest and participation in our events. All of our social media sites will be completed and hopefully growing. I will have started to source most of the parts that I need to build all of the go quads and go karts

3 months: I will have completed building all go-peds and go-karts at this point and they are ready to go. We will be getting close to hosting our first even at the end of this time frame.

6 Months: We have officially began doing our meetups. We will have hosted at least a couple during this time frame and hopefully word will begin to spread and interest is growing.

So now we hope it is apparent why we think this idea makes sense. Now let’s talk about what we plan to do specifically with our funding. I have been a part-time go-ped mechanic since I was a teenager and love building and fixing go-peds. With a portion of the funding I will purchase the parts for 15 of these and assemble them myself. I will not be charging for any of the labor that I do. With this fleet of gopeds, we feel that we can accommodate at least 60 – 80 kids (sessions will be broken up so some are racing and some are learning at any time). We will be creating promotional materials and passing them along to local middle schools and high schools to generate interest amongst kids who are not already in our program. Our target will be the entire Bay Area and everyone is welcome who would like to join.

Each month we will have a race day planned out. It will involve racing, BBQ/eating/and learning about Cardano and personal finance. We will have detailed lesson plans prepared ahead of time along with materials that the kids can take home and reference later. We will be filming the race events and plan to make a Youtube channel where we can share them with the community. The videos will contain racing footage, but will also contain lessons and information on Cardano and personal finance. The hope is that this will bring in and educate kids from all over the world, not just the ones we interact with in person.

The budget and information provided below is for 1 year. You can see from our plan that we are not for profit and will not be charging anyone for these meetups. If they are successful and we keep our goals, we will submit a future proposal to get an additional year of funding and the community can decide if this is something worthwhile or not. In addition, if this does catch on and become popular, we have plans on how we would like to expand to other cities as well.

Detailed Budget: We have created a detailed budget for everything we plan to do and have included it below.

Total Funds Requested 34,600

15 Go-peds – 18,000

Breakdown is as follows:

In order to save costs and do this for as cheaply as possible, I will be buying all of the parts and building everything myself. I will not be charging for my time.

Go-ped frames (10): 500 a frame * 15 frames = 7,500

Go-ped motors (10): 600 a motor * 15 motors = 9,000

Wheels, tires, chains (10 sets): 100 a set * 15 sets = 1,500

Liability Insurance: $150 per month * 12 months = 1,800

Safety Equipment (helmets, pads, etc) – 1,000

Website – 2,500

Promotional Materials (business cards/flyers/shirts/etc) - $2000

Advertising – 2,000

Gopros to film races and create materials to upload to our youtube channel - 2 * 400 each = $800

Snacks and drinks at meets: 1 meet a month 12 months 300 per meet = 3600

Cardano/Blockchain teaching materials: $500 total

Track/Venue rental = 12 events with 6 requiring rental. $400 per day * 6 days = 2,400

I currently have a small core group of goped mechanics that have been building gopeds for over 20 years. We are all part of a goped network that spans across the entire united states. We posses the knowledge and power to handle any goped related issue that arises. I will also be looking into on boarding a social media specialist once the budget is decided.

[AUDITABILITY]

Auditability/KPIs/Measures of Success

We have already provided the above budget and timeline which we can be audited against to determine if we are on track and how our funding has been spent. In additional to those areas, there are the following areas and KPIs to audit and assess our progress.

Number of gopeds and go-karts in service. For this first year our goal is to have the 15 that were included in the proposal. This will allow us to service a large number of youths.

Average number of people attending our meetings. We would expect this to start at a bit smaller at first with 5 to 10, but hope to be averaging 60 to 80 + during the end of the 12 months period.

Number of Cardano wallets created. With their parents permission, we would encourage them all to create a Cardano wallet. We will send each of them some of our own tokens we will mint ourselves (no monetary value but fun to use to learn) called GOPED. They can learn how to send, receive, how the staking functionality works etc. Goal would be for at least 50% of all students to download a wallet.

Having at least 1,000 followers on our twitter and 500 subscribers to our youtube channel

Social media plays a huge role in our society today, especially with the younger generation. Having at least 1,000 followers on our twitter and 500 subscribers to our youtube channel would be successful for this project. Over time as more content is shared it will create a snowball effect and our followers will continue to grow.
