Detailed Plan

🔍 Details TBA

Goals:

 • Increase the representation and participation of an established worlwide arts and culture ecosystem - including queer, BIPOC (black indegenous, peole of colour), and female communities - into the Catalyst Community by curating the program with bookers from the UWS and SOU communities.

 • Establish a vibrant collaboration between UWS, SoU, an NFT maker project on the Cardano blockchain, and Cardano particularly the Catalyst Community. This will introduce Cardano to an established worldwide arts and culture ecosystem.

 • Execute a 'live-workshop' with three established artists and an NFT platform built on Cardano, - streamed on the United We Stream platform and Cardano Catalyst Community YouTube channel - in order to refine and create new proposals for other ideas.

 • Off-shoot profit contributions from the NFTs, closing the knowledge gap for mass adoption by onboarding artist and cultural communities into the - Global Association for Distributed Arts & Culture (GADAC) Hub - and furthermore into the Cardano Catalyst Community.

 • Live creation of unique 1:1 digital art pieces (NFTs) of which only one will be sold for charity and the others given to workshop participants.

 • Create 'local FOMO' and generate a higher demand for the live-created NFTs, and in turn a higher monetary return. Initially the NFTs would only be available to local participants. Then one NFT will be sold to a bidder outside of the workshop - 10% of the proceeds will go to the artist and 90% will contribute to the long-term redistribution channel (Virtual Space of Urgency, GADAC DisCO) built on Cardano.

Background/Overall Mission

During the COVID-19 pandemic, 'Spaces of Urgency' (communities including musicians, artists, labels, independent clubs and organizers, etc.), have suffered economically, becoming too dependent on government assistance. In particular, emerging musicians and artists in the nightlife scene have found it difficult to grow their fan-bases and also to reach wider, international audiences due to venue closures and a decline in international travel. Additionally, there are longer-term factors that precede the pandemic. For years, gentrification has threatened local, physical spaces (clubs, etc.) where musicians and artists have traditionally created and showcased their work.

Cultural spaces, musician and artist communities are under threat and require new approaches to support the growth and internationalization of their careers, and also to establish equal opportunities and fairer remuneration for their artistic and cultural outputs. In order to address the above problems, transparent, fair, nonhierarchical forms of self-organization and governance can help spaces of urgency - communities of musicians, artists, labels, and independent clubs and organizers - adopt disruptive ways of creating, managing, and disseminating their cultural goods, as well as the way these goods are monetized and consumed by audiences.

Since Space of Urgency and United We Stream are part of a vast worldwide network of established artists/musicians, organizers, and those working to preserve cultural spaces, we believe there is a unique chance to invite a few established artists/musicians to mint their goods in real time - or 'live mint' - with the Cardano Catalyst Community. Through this collaboration, other independent cultural actors will be inspired to become active members and join our Hub - Global Association for Distributed Arts & Culture (GADAC) - and in turn, the Cardano Catalyst Community.

The NFTs could include anything from music to commemorative tickets, merchandise, etc. The creation and distribution of these NFTs has the potential to create a sustainable social and economic impact, with the initial profits contributing to the development of a Space of Urgency Virtual Platform and GADAC DisCO.With the Alonzo hard fork and the full release and implementation of smart contracts, NFTs minted on Cardano will undoubtedly increase dramatically in the coming months. It's an optimal time to introduce a range of new, diverse artists and musicians to the Cardano Community, benefitting:

(1) the artists/musicians and other members of arts and cultural communities who are new to the Cardano ecosystem, and world of blockchain more broadly, by onboarding them via an established community and set of processes and protocols built on collective, decentralized innovation and self-determination, values that are also embedded in the cultural spaces and communities SoU and UWS work with; and

(2) the Cardano Community, by forging connections with a broader range of viewpoints and creative input, as well as amplifying Cardano's reach and impact with the onboarding of more established artists/musicians who will act as ambassadors. This will in turn inspire an even greater number of currently underrepresented communities to adopt Cardano and help it amplify its reach and onboarding potential.

The Team:

We're a group of activists, community organizers, entrepreneurs, researchers, writers, and artists working together to establish a Global Association for Decentralized Arts & Culture (GADAC). Through this networked system and platform our aim is to both:

(1) create tools for autonomous, nonhierarchical, self-organized communities to efficiently and fairly govern, track contributions (especially community care and pro bono work) and remuneration, establish scalability, etc. (detailed in our other F6 proposal, DisCO of Urgency); and

(2) help these communities generate revenue via the minting and distribution of NFTs, thus creating participatory and/or monetary value (value onboarding). Through this different kind of redistribution structure, participating artists would also have the option to auction their NFT's and distribute ROI to arts and culture communities and the Cardano ecosystem.

After working for 10 years directly with artist and cultural communities, primarily those which have been marginalized by mainstream society and the status quo economic system, we've come to understand that new resilience strategies are needed - strategies that eliminate the need for government dependence and redistribution structures with little ROI. During the last years, we have facilitated substantive dialogue and debates and organized numerous conferences and events with interdisciplinary actors such as political agents, local governments, artists, and cultural communities. Establishing GADAC is a natural next step in the progression of our work.

Space of Urgency (SoU) (Liese Kingma, Lucas Counter, Heather Brown): Space of Urgency´s mission is to empower the visibility and resilience of independent cultural spaces and their communities, by sharing stories, knowledge, and tools for tangible solidarity in times of crisis. Expertise in designing and hosting workshops and knowledge exchange programs, and developing cultural community projects that bring collectives together, build trust, and foster deep knowledge exchange for social impact and community resilience. The project was founded in Berlin by a three-person core team.

United We Stream (UWS) (Anna Harnes and Danaja Volk): Expertise in marketing and global outreach media strategies for social impact. The broader project team includes six Berlin-based members. The cultural platform was initiated in Berlin in March 2020 as the club scene's response to COVID-19 and has since gone far beyond that to advocate for the preservation and sustainable development of club culture, diversity, and equality through streaming, partnerships, and campaigns. The global movement has involved over 2,200 artists in 117 cities. The Berlin-based association is the umbrella for the worldwide network of individuals, clubs, and collectives.

📊 Milestone plan TBA

Timeline

Three months (December 2021 through February 2022)

We're planning to have all of the above-mentioned goals completed within three months after the challenge is successfully decided upon by the Cardano Catalyst Community.

End of November (27.11.2021)

 • Launch: The inaugural project launch will be at the Frei(t)räume (Envisioning Free Space) conference in Berlin (27.11.2021) - a nighttime culture conference organized by members of the Space of Urgency project in collaboration with United We Stream and the Stadt Nach Acht (City After Eight) conference. A focus of this year's conference is 'disruptive technologies', and will be our first moment to present the Cardano ecosystem (re: new opportunities) and our project to the cultural community. This is also aligned with our other F6 proposal, 'DisCO of Urgency'.

First week of December 2021

 • Community Calls: UWS and SoU have a network of over 2,500 Artists worldwide, who will be contacted and invited to a workshop about NFT creation. A communications strategy with targeted posts with visuals will be disseminated throughout the internal network of key players and the wider audience of UWS before and after the live stream, aiming for a viewership of at least 50,000 single click views by young (aged 18-35) arts and cultural participants.

Mid of January- End of February

 • External Campaign: To close the knowledge gap about the cryptoverse and especially NFTs. To provide the wider communities surrounding UWS, SoU, MitOSt (a Berlin-based NGO for cultural exchange and social cohesion) and Cardano tangible and clear products explaining the cryptoverse and its usage so the audience of the artists who will be interested in buying the NFTs gets the knowledge of how to do so.

 • Workshop: After that, three established artists (music, video, visual media) will be engaged to participate in a 'Live-Workshop' - introducing NFTs, the verification process, and discussing subsequent steps. - that is streamed via the international UWS platforms and the Cardano Catalyst Community YouTube channel. Additionally, we will have an interactive online chat. It will be moderated by two representatives from Cardano and Catalyst and two community managers from United We Stream, to provide community care with established awareness practices and answer viewer questions.

 • Expansion: UWS and SoU have a network of over 2500 Artists worldwide, who will be contacted and informed that the Live Stream NFT workshop for creating and handling their NFT will be held. A communication strategy with targeted posts with visuals will be implemented in this internal network of key players as well as into the wider audience of UWS before and after the live stream, aiming for a viewership of minimum 50,000 single click views by young (aged 18-35)arts and cultural participants.

 • Profit: The idea is that the artists could keep 10% of the profit of the NFT they produce while 90% would be repurposed for a long term contribution channel to aid the development of a Space of Urgency Virtual Platform and GADAC DisCO on the cardano ecosystem. These two instruments are designed to support artist and cultural communities and bring them into the Cardano Ecosystem and Catalyst Community.

After the three months:

 • Establish a collaboration with an NFT maker platform on the Cardano blockchain and give maximum exposure to an established worldwide arts and culture ecosystem. To ensure a sustainable feedback exchange between the artists community based on the educational workshop structured in collaboration with the Cardano community. This way the artists will be able to interact on the NFT Platform and integrate the NFTs into their creative process.

🦾 KPIs

Definition of Success:

Internal campaign

 • Goal: To inform the global network and everyone we have been working closely with in the past years on the crypto-verse. In that way we can grow more efficiently and the community can adapt to these topics. Through this campaign the public one can also gain more traction since the internal community will clearly know what they are supporting and will also be able to explain and contribute.

 • How: By creating community biweekly calls month from December 2021- February 2022 with representatives from the networks of UWS, SoU, MitOst and Cardano community where these processes will be explained and questions will be answered. With each call the goal is to increase the presence of various cultural actors. All these calls will be moderated with awareness protocols developed by UWS and other partners. Everything will be recorded and then analysed by team members. We are aiming to adopt the concept of the Town Halls so the community will get used to this collaborative tool.

External campaign

 • Goal: To close the knowledge gap about the cryptoverse and NFT. To provide the wider communities surrounding UWS, SOU, MitOSt and Cardano tangible and clear products explaining the cryptoverse and its usage so the audience of the artists who will be interested in buying the NFTs gets the knowledge of how to do so.

 • How: By creating educational and creative posts on Instagram and Facebook released in the span of six weeks, to introduce the community to the upcoming workshops. The campaign will also be designed to be sustainable and long-term so that anyone could at any point come back and learn about these topics as well as share with their peers.

 • Live-Workshop: executed at the end of February with three artists selected from the UWS and SoU network of 2,500 Artists worldwide, and in collaboration with an established NFT platform on the Cardano blockchain. The workshop will be educational and structured in collaboration with the Cardano community.
