This proposal was approved and funded by the Cardano Community via Project F11: Cardano Use Cases: Concept Catalyst funding round.

[SOLUTION] Please describe your proposed solution.

Our proposed solution leverages Cardano's blockchain to revolutionize wine supply chain tracking, from vineyard to bottle. Key work directions in this concept phase include:

1 - Collaborating with Moldovan Wineries: Establish partnerships with wineries to index vineyards for data collection, including location, grape variety, and harvest quantities.

This will help us understand the tools that are already used and how best to integrate blockchain technology into the process to create easily verifiable records touching every step of the process

2 - Wine Production Tracking: Inscribe subtle wine production processes onto the blockchain for reporting and marketing, ensuring accurate quantity tracking.

Tracking and storing this information is key to documenting a rich production and manufacturing history that immortalises the steps taken and the conditions of every product, from vine to table.

3 - Bottling and Quality Control: Implement checkpoints during bottling to maintain data integrity and prevent misinformation or fraud.

Simple tracking mechanisms and certificates/tokens can be issued on-chain automatically to create traceable data streams.

4 - Storage Conditions Monitoring: Utilize Gustos.Life | Winetech's hardware system to monitor storage conditions like geolocation, temperature, light, vibration, and humidity, and integrate this data onto the blockchain via API.

This way of seamlessly integrating blockchain into automated processes will enable tracking and data collection to be done automatically, so data is never lost or misinterpreted.

This concept phase focuses on:

  • Indexing vineyards with detailed geolocation and viticulture data.

  • Developing an on-chain information storage solution, paired with an off-chain open-source 'decoder.'

  • Streamlining the transfer of winery data to the blockchain for ease and automation.

  • Conceptualizing a user-friendly platform for individuals and B2B clients to trace wine provenance.

  • This phase lays the groundwork for our MVP development, where these concepts will be brought to life, paving the way for a transparent, decentralized, and efficient wine supply chain.

[IMPACT] Please define the positive impact your project will have on the wider Cardano community.

Our project aims to deliver a transformative impact on the Cardano community by introducing a practical and innovative use case: a comprehensive tool for tracking vital data in the wine industry. This application not only showcases the real-world applicability of Cardano but also provides tangible benefits to businesses, especially in marketing. By offering factual, blockchain-verified information about wine products, we empower companies to market their products more authentically and effectively.

Traditionally, supply chain tracking in industries like wine has been reliant on private blockchains, which come with inherent risks of centralisation and single points of failure. Our project, by contrast, leverages the decentralised nature of Cardano's blockchain, supported by over 3,000 stake pools, ensuring reliability, transparency, and indefinite continuity. This shift to a public, decentralized system represents a major advancement in terms of security and trustworthiness.

Moreover, by successfully implementing this project, we set a precedent for other industries to follow, potentially leading to widespread adoption of Cardano for similar applications. This not only broadens the scope of Cardano’s use cases but also reinforces its position as a leading blockchain platform capable of addressing diverse industry needs. The project, therefore, contributes to the overall growth and visibility of the Cardano ecosystem, demonstrating its potential beyond traditional financial applications.

[CAPABILITY & FEASIBILITY] What is your capability to deliver your project with high levels of trust and accountability? How do you intend to validate if your approach is feasible?

Our team's unique blend of expertise and experience positions us to deliver this project with high levels of trust and accountability. From a business standpoint, Tudor's extensive experience provides deep insights into the specific needs and challenges of the sector. His entrepreneurial spirit and vision for integrating Cardano technology into local industries are key drivers of the project. This is enhanced by Veaceslav’s experience in setting up Winetech and elaborating the Digital Wine Storage solution. The deep connections Veaceslav and Sorin and Tudor have with key players in the Wine industry in Moldova is also helpful in attracting these users to the project.

From a technical standpoint, we believe we have all the right skillsets to enable efficient delivery of the diverse modules that will ultimately be assembled into the solution. Veaceslav’s experience in delivering technical solutions within the wine industry and across the broader IT space, combined with Sorin’s expertise in building large scale enterprise wide solutions across a number of verticals will enable defining and further development of solutions that adhere to industry best practices as well as set the foundation for subsequent scaling to support a large number of actors that we hope will be looking to embrace the Supply Chain Tracking & Storage Monitoring System. Another technical member of the team is Rhys who is a highly experienced Plutus and Aiken developer who will enhance the technical capabilities of the team and enable the right skills to develop resilient smart contracts and integrate the solution into the Cardano ecosystem.

As each project is as good as it's able to communicate, we will use the expertise in communication and marketing of Pierre in order to create a community of contributors and clients for the solution.

To validate our approach's feasibility, we will start with a targeted pilot project involving a select group of Moldovan wineries. This will allow us to test our systems in a controlled, real-world environment, ensuring that our solutions are not only theoretically sound but also practical and effective in actual industry settings. Regular feedback and collaboration with these wineries will enable us to refine our approach continually.

Furthermore, the adoption of our technology in an another Tudor's upcoming endeavor - a tokenized wine project, will serve as an additional real-world application and validation of our solutions. This holistic approach, combining industry expertise, technical know-how, and practical application, ensures our project is not only feasible but also sets a precedent for blockchain technology in industry-specific applications.

[VALUE FOR MONEY] How does the cost of the project represent value for money for the Cardano ecosystem?

This proposal creates the opportunity to onboard all sorts of processing, manufacturing & traceability data onto the blockchain which can directly influence global adoption of the Cardano blockchain and the available technology.

We are starting with a focus on one specific product but we are intending to expand to other industries and verticals where traceability and verifiable manufacturing and production lines matter.

This initial concept and MVP design will help create a system for us to expand into those other verticals efficiently by having tools built at our disposal to apply to any specific use case.

This means any traction we get can lead to rapid adoption of Cardano, generating huge transaction volume and an influx of new active wallets that are automating this tracking process.

Open sourcing our tools will enable other projects to easily adopt the technology we develop and integrate it into their own services and offerings

Creating an environment of collaboration that can help raise all of the traceability solutions and oracle services on Cardano will lead to a greater level of adoption for everyone.
