COMMUNICATIONS—THE LIFEBLOOD OF COMMUNITY
This proposal is to integrate multiple technologies through APIs into one tool that simplifies communications and collaboration within a DAO.
Currently DAOs use Telegram, Signal, Discord, Slack, Zoom, Google-Meet, and a host of other solutions in an effort to keep up with communications. Then they post to LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, Telegram etc. and all of this takes time and effort to sync and manage. Invariably miscommunication occurs. Wouldn't it be nice if you could integrate all these into a single pane of glass? That is what this proposal is about.
We have been ideating and architecting an elegant solution and implementation plans. Our engineers working on this solution are proponents of open-source technology and familiar with integrating APIs from many existing sources and projects. They have experience building similar solutions for private companies.
Our integration solution will utilize existing FOSS to make it as simple to message or call anyone as it is to send them an email. Allow you to communicate without being forced to install the same app. Choose who hosts the communication. Secure conversations with E2E encryption. Deploy a simple standard HTTP API for sharing real-time data on the web. It will offer freedom for DAOs and web3 businesses from centralized solutions and allow for truly decentralized communications that are private, encrypted E2E, and allow you to own your data rather than some centralized third party.
The solution will be a decentralised conversation store rather than a messaging protocol. When you send a message, it is replicated over all the servers whose users are participating in a given conversation - similarly to how commits are replicated between Git repositories. There is no single point of control or failure in the conversation which spans multiple servers: the act of communication with someone elsewhere in the system shares ownership of the conversation equally with them. Even if your server goes offline, the conversation can continue uninterrupted elsewhere until it returns.
This means that every server has total self-sovereignty over its users data - and anyone can choose or run their own server and participate in the wider network. This is how the system democratises control over communication.
By default, we will use simple HTTPS+JSON APIs as the baseline transport, but also embrace more sophisticated transports such as WebSockets or ultra-low-bandwidth via CoAP+Noise.
Thus as our first consideration, we are addressing this prime need of communications and collaboration tools for a truly decentralized geographically dispersed organization. As this addresses the heartbeat and soul of a community. We will also add integration with the best tools coming out of this Challenge for governance, treasury, & participation (voting).
NFT-DAO has recently gained a new member, the former head of Governance of Aragon, who will be helping us define our goverance model and help us prepare to become a fully operational DAO by our target of 2Q22. This tool and our current work on governance will be integrated.

IMPACT
As for the "Key Metrics to measure" these two shall be impacted the most:

Number of DAOs that use Cardano as governance/management chain in 6 months. Because this tool will have Cardano Governance integration, it will be a differentiator for Cardano DAOs.

Number of DAO toolset/frameworks available for DAO Ops (>1). Since this is the ONLY solution sugggesting COMMUNICATION inprovement, and delivering these tools, it should be useful to every Cardano DAO.
