Summary

DLT360’s overall mission is to drive real-world blockchain adoption in business and industry. In order to pursue this mission, this project is addressing one of the biggest pain points in the Digital Transformation of business and industry: The remote access to field-installed sensors, actuators, machines and equipment (this includes IoT / IIoT devices, EDGE-devices with e.g. AI Algorithms, and - more general – all Digital Twins of physical items).

Once installed ‘in the field’, various non-trusting parties, like the original device manufacturers, the device integrators and the actual users aim to get access to data and perform analytics and/or maintenance activities.

This project will lead to the following results

  • Publicly available PR and Communication material (Primer, Pitch-Deck, Pitch-Video) mainly used for activities on YouTube and LinkedIn)
  • Requirements Specification & Concept Paper (approx. 10,000 words)
  • Business Development Presentation (approx. 50 slides) and
  • Business Development Video (approx. 30 minutes)
  • A shortlist of renowned strategic partners for subsequent product & service development
  • The resulting material will also be integrated into the DLT360 NAVIGATOR (Knowledge Management Tool), the DLT360 Risk & Opportunity Radar and the DLT360 NEWS RADAR (see LINK to our related Fund 10 project).

Rationale

During the early years of Digital Transformation, this was handled in what is best described as the ‘Wild West Manner’. Latest since 2020, this has become too risky for the involved parties - mainly due to the following reasons:

  • Cybersecurity regulations have become much stricter and have been expanded to the OT area (OT = Operations Technologies). Compliance to e.g. IEC63443 became the important state of the art. Neglecting this can be very costly and even lead to liabilities of the CEO and C-Suite of companies (e.g. in the case of systemically important businesses)

  • Confidentiality, Data Privacy and ‘Data Ownership’: Complex collision of interests. Devices (sensors, actuators, algorithms) may be integrated into machines and machines are then integrated into factories: All parties (the original manufacturers of devices, the manufacturers of machines and the factory managers) want access to ‘their’ data, but the factories are more and more blocking remote access for avoiding any risks (thus jeopardizing the ‘digital’ business models of the underlying device and/or component vendors).

  • Liability: Untransparent and uncontrolled access to field devices and Digital Twins can also lead to complex disputes in case something goes wrong (what Apple does with your iPad does not work with complex machines. In case of machine malfunctions after remote maintenance, very costly consequential damage can arise).

  • Human Safety: Similar to the above-described liability for business interruption, remote access by external vendors might lead to dangerous situations when performed at the wrong moment. This is another reason why remote access is currently heavily restricted by factory managers and/or their security subcontractors.

This is why this project is touching a high-priority use case, where SSI, Blockchain and Smart Contracts can add great value. As a first step, it is very important to deeply understand the requirements and identify the right strategic partners for subsequent product & service developments. During this project, our activities will focus on

  • Detailed analysis of business requirements
  • Creation of Requirements Specification (Development Concept)
  • Establishing comprehensive material for communication, training and business development

The output of this project will represent a major USP for DLT360, also strongly benefitting the CARDANO ecosystem.

Strategy

The unique knowledge and the material established by this project will be used to support our overall DLT360 mission and will be the basis for

  • Active PR and communication for creating attention and interest for TwinShare solutions (mainly handled on YouTube and LinkedIn)

  • Dedicated training and business development seminars

  • Establishing a shortlist of strategic development partners from business and industry for getting from interest to desire and action

This project is expected to show a substantial impact on the work of DLT360 as well as on the scaling of CARDANO and Atala PRISM-based applications in business and industry. We expect the following major impact areas:

[IMPACT] How does your proposed solution address the challenge and what benefits will this bring to the Cardano ecosystem?

This project will bring the following significant benefits to the Products and Integrations Challenge (and to Atala PRISM as well as the Cardano ecosystem):

  • Grow expert relationships: Create close relationships with leading players in this field, including original device manufacturers, industry organizations and potential customers in business and industry

  • Grow awareness about CARDANO and Atala PRISM: The resulting material will be used in active PR/Communication (mainly on YouTube and LinkedIn) and will help us to position CARDANO and Atala PRISM as value-adding application suite for future-proof business and industry applications

  • Increase community knowledge and engagement: We will use the material for community activities in the context of the emerging DLT360 NEWS RADAR (see our NEWS RADAR-related Fund 10 project)

  • Having a solid basis for subsequent product and service development: This project is essential for gaining a clear requirement specification for later product and service developments, as this is a powerful, but very complex topic - involving quite a number of non-trusting stakeholders

  • Identify the right strategic partners: Based on the elaborated material, we will establish a short list of strategic development partners (e.g. technology creators, industry organizations, original manufacturers and factory managers).

This project is part of the overall activities of DLT360. Nevertheless, we can identify a number of specific metrics, KPIs and qualitative factors for evaluating the mid-and long-term rate of success of this project.

  • Number of expert relationships: This is a general success criterion of DLT360, which this project shares with most of our other projects. This KPI is part of the overall DLT360 scorecard. We will nevertheless try to measure the new relationships generated specifically by this project.

  • The reputation of DLT360, CARDANO and Atala PRISM within our target groups: We plan to do annual surveys within our target customer area in business and industry for providing us with feedback about the progress in our PR and communication efforts

  • Number of community activities and the number of participants: Based on the material generated by this project, we will offer dedicated community activities (DLT360 NEWS RADAR sessions, training and after-town hall breakout rooms). The number and the success of these activities will be tracked

  • Quality of our Requirements Specification: This will be measured by integrating feedback from experts in this field and is a prerequisite for the next following point

  • Identify the right strategic partners: We will measure and document the number of partnerships acquired as an outcome of this project (e.g. technology creators, industry organizations, original manufacturers and factory managers).

DLT360 was founded by an ambitious core team coming from many years of leadership experience in business and industry, combined with the fresh perspective of young talents in various disciplines (see team description later in this proposal). The senior founders have also been active members of and contributors to the Catalyst community since early on.

DLT360's core team and extended domain expert team in the knowledge areas of

has grown to approximately 25 people (the majority still part-time) during the past 2 years. With Fund 10, we also want to finance the launch of the DLT360 Token as the incentive basis for growing a vibrant global community of content contributors and solution partners.

DLT360 has successfully completed various projects in Funds 6, 7 and 8. Fund 10 is now dedicated to finalizing DLT360's foundational developments. This will get us to scale up our activities in 2024, for which we are aiming for a strategic partnership-based financing round - with the vision to become THE major think-tank and commercial consulting entity in the dynamically growing CARDANO/Web 3.0 space.

In addition to this, Heinz has education and experience in general business administration and regulatory matters and is just completing his latest M.Sc. in DLT/Blockchain at the University of Malta (with Dissertation in Decentralized Digital Identity area). Due to his long industry career, Heinz also has a strong personal network within the business and industry leadership community.
