Solution

A Twitter-Account that posts the timeline, timeline-reminders, updates on the timeline, and gives Catalyst resources where needed. And it’s already alive and growing! Both as an account AND an idea.

Problem

There are many resources for Catalyst, but not a simple Ticker that provides the most important information. Communication is important, and it needs to be enhanced for better overviews and less FOMO.

[IMPACT] Please describe your proposed solution.

Catalyst is a very special community inside the Cardano community. We always have our heads ANYwhere, get excited, and let our hyper-focus-pocus do its magic. We help each other, we encourage each other, we criticise each other. Our goals are located on a very broad spectrum, yet we all share the same hope: that the world becomes a better place for everyone - and we want this innovation engine to kickstart projects that share this dream.

In such a heavily inspiring evironment, keeping overview and not-losing-one’s-head because of small but important things is absolutely crucial. The Catalyst Ticker solves this: it functions as a reliable, central go-to place for information-distribution on the Catalyst heartbeat: the timeline of the stages during Funds.

The Catalyst Ticker wants to catch this heartbeat, give context to it, attach resources, and update reliably - to ensure that people already in Catalyst have a comfy timeline-reminder, and people outside of Catalyst have an easy entry-point:

  • it is easily accessible information without having an account on Ideascale first
  • it doesn’t require anyone to be signed up to the mailing list first nor to have read every mail
  • it doesn’t require anyone to have joined a Telegram group or Discord server, nor to stay updated on them (which is overwhelming for both beginners AND Catalyst “veterans”)
  • it doesn’t require anyone to have attended every Town Hall by IOG
  • it reduces FOMO in case of taking a break from all the named above
  • it compensates the lack of necessary information on official Cardano webpages
  • and it is - due to the nature of Twitter - even accessible without being signed-up to Twitter

… and still, it informs about the possibilities and necessities in Catalyst to contribute, and provides resources both official and community-made.

The Ticker is already running, growing, and steadily increasing in quality as I put more and more love, time, and thought into it.

[IMPACT] Please describe how your proposed solution will address the Challenge that you have submitted it in.

I submitted it in this challenge, because it makes cross-chain collaboration not only easier, it also attracts all kind of blockchain enthusiasts that hang out on Twitter to Catalyst.

The Account will be (or: IS) a connection node for any communities - and since other chain-ecosystem members already know the basics of blockchain and may be looking out for cool stuff happening on other chains, a simple yet powerful Catalyst Ticker that keeps one up-to-date on the timeline reliably is crucial.

Hence, it is a good opportunity for a “initiative[] to increase communication, coordination and collaboration between chains”, and addresses especially the challenge of “awareness & understanding” - both quoted from the challenge settings.

And finally: the “end goal” of the challenge setting (quoted too) - “*Let’s create an enriching, open and safe environment, where people from different communities can find common ground and share knowledge, resources, skills, ideas and visions with one another.” -* this is only achievable if everyone interested in Catalyst has an easily accessible way to information about the Catalyst timeline and the necessities to contribute.

[IMPACT] What are the main risks that could prevent you from delivering the project successfully and please explain how you will mitigate each risk?

Risk:

  • I get unexpectedly sick when I should be preparing and posting a tweet/thread

Solution:

  • If I get funded, I could not only ask but also PAY someone to help me out: they would prepare the tweet for me, send it to me, and I then just post it

Risk:

  • I miss an important announcement despite me being up-to-date anyways and always

Solution:

  • This risk is very small, since the timeline is not only curcial for others, but also for me - so I doubt that I will just miss something out of nowhere
  • The Ticker is a means of communication, but comms can also happen in the other direction: people can comment/message and hint to the missed update - in that case, I would let the “swarm intelligence” resolve the rest-risk to that risk

Both risks do not endanger the delivery of the project, they would just be obstacles on the road. I do not see any risks that endanger the entire delivery. Well, maybe, if Twitter stopped working out of nowhere. But I couldn’t help that but hope it doesn’t happen. :)

[FEASIBILITY] Please provide a detailed plan, including timeline and key milestones for delivering your proposal.

The Account already lives @CatalystTicker on Twitter, and the only thing I have to do is continuously prepare and post the timeline updates every time they’re due. I will also naturally engage with the community and spread the word about Catalyst via this helpful account.

Timeline and key milestones:

Fund 9:

  • provide the timeline and selected challenges (done! - 0)
  • provide “basic” resources (done! - 1)
  • inform about proposal submission (done! - 2)
  • inform about assessing (done! - 3)
  • inform about voting
  • inform about cool-down

Fund 10:

  • provide the timeline and selected challenges
  • provide “basic” resources
  • inform about proposal submission
  • write a new proposal for Catalyst Ticker
  • inform about assessing
  • inform about voting
  • inform about cool-down

Continuously:

  • engage on Twitter to spread the word
  • engage with the community and newcomers to collect helpful resources
  • watch out for important updates (or even changes) in Town Halls, Mailing list, and Announcement channel and make them into Tweets as well

Examples:

Some Threads I made:

For one Fund: 4months x 200.- = 800.-

200.- per month results out of this reasoning:

This is 50.- per week.

The time I invest per week to stay up to date with the timeline is 2 hours. So, my rate/hour of information gathering is 25.-/h. This is the same payment I would get for tutoring students, and for working at a checkout in a local supermarket.

I do not calculate the time and effort I put into posts, because the time varies heavily. But I can assure you that I will (and already do) absolutely take my time I need to be happy with the post and the time the post needs to be nice and neat.

and the rest: 50.- for the person who made the logo design (this payment may return in further funding request since I also asked a professional who didn’t find the time in the meantime)

[FEASIBILITY] Please provide details of the people who will work on the project.

Zoé - dedicated community member, good student, up-to-date anyways about the dates, perfectionist with love for details and a sense for (and necessity of) aesthetics, passionate about proper information distribution

@zoeselina on Ideascale

@AnimaValeska on Twitter

@Toasti#5264 on Discord

[FEASIBILITY] If you are funded, will you return to Catalyst in a later round for further funding? Please explain why / why not.

Yes, I will return with the more or less same proposal next Fund for maintenance!

If I come up with improvement/expansion ideas, I will try them out, and potentially add them to the next proposal (or create an additional one).

Potential ideas for the future of the Ticker:

  • Using Twitter Spaces to host events during specific stages (e.g. Insight Sharing)

  • Discord integration or a bot for Catalyst (Community) Server(s)

  • Creating a webpage / integration to webpages

  • Expansion onto other Social Medias

[AUDITABILITY] Please describe what you will measure to track your project’s progress, and how will you measure these?

The two numerically measurable things are:

  • growing follower number
  • engagement with the posts, e.g. via likes, retweets, and comments

These only indicate the reach of the Ticker Account on Twitter, which means I would also want to do a little survey to ask for opinions, feedback, improvement ideas, and other qualitative questions. Will do this after Fund9 is over, to start into Fund10 with greater knowledge.

[AUDITABILITY] What does success for this project look like?

Success for the Catalyst Ticker means, that it became a reliable and easy resource for people both in Catalyst and outside.

Furtherly, the following mean success too:

  • successfully onboarded many new members to Catalyst

  • successfully informed and updated people in Catalyst and outside

  • had fun reaching out, connecting, commenting, discussing, informing, creating, etc.

  • had fun watching Catalyst grow bigger and bigger

  • the Ticker became an easy entry-point to Catalyst and the future of Cardano

[AUDITABILITY] Please provide information on whether this proposal is a continuation of a previously funded project in Catalyst or an entirely new one.

This is an entirely new proposal :)
