We will make a 2nd game for Milkomeda that operates entirely on-chain without needing to trust a centralized server, and do so in a more gas-friendly way than traditional gas-hungry on-chain games

Problem:

Currently, most blockchain-based games are not actually running on-chain. Instead, they run on centralized servers and the only blockchain component are NFTs and tokens used by the game

[IMPACT] Please describe your proposed solution.

We will create a blockchain-based game that does not depend on centralized servers to operate and introduces minimal new trust assumptions. We have already built a first prototype game based on this concept (funded by a previous Catalyst proposal) which did a lot of the initial R&D work for the new blockchain-based game engine we developed. We will use and improve this engine in the context of building a 2nd game which we plan to be a tower defense game

[IMPACT] Please describe how your proposed solution will address the Challenge that you have submitted it in.

We believe the novel technology in this game will bring adoption to Cardano through the growth of GameFi

[IMPACT] What are the main risks that could prevent you from delivering the project successfully and please explain how you will mitigate each risk?

We are developing a new blockchain-based game engine with some new concepts that (as far as we know) is not being used by any other project. That means that beyond the standard R&D risks of developing the game itself (delays, overbudget, etc), there is an additional R&D risk for the new technology that we are building for the game engine. Additionally, there is a risk the game is not a market success (standard product risk)

[FEASIBILITY] Please provide a detailed plan, including timeline and key milestones for delivering your proposal.

Deploy the game to Cardano via Milkomeda. Expected launch will most likely be Q4/Q1

[FEASIBILITY] Please provide a detailed budget breakdown.

Funds will be split between contract work for the game development and the R&D for the game engine

[FEASIBILITY] Please provide details of the people who will work on the project.

Robert Kornacki is leading the team

[FEASIBILITY] If you are funded, will you return to Catalyst in a later round for further funding? Please explain why / why not.

Not for this game, but depending on public feedback we may create a 3rd game in the future

[AUDITABILITY] Please describe what you will measure to track your project's progress, and how will you measure these?

For v1, we will be tracking progress of code required for the game engine and the game itself. Post release, we will track user growth

[AUDITABILITY] What does success for this project look like?

Success is the continued development of the game engine and positive (and sustainable) growth of the game's userbase

[AUDITABILITY] Please provide information on whether this proposal is a continuation of a previously funded project in Catalyst or an entirely new one.

Yes, continuation of <https://cardano.ideascale.com/c/idea/400666>

Monthly Reports

Currently, we are still working on developing the environment and game logic, but the first internal demos are achieving very good results and we are pleased with the progress of the team. We are presenting some graphics to keep the vision of the game a secret before the first official announcements. The following is a list of the graphical assets for the units, structures, map, and title screen.

Over the past month, our team has made significant progress in the development of our Unity frontend build. One of our key objectives during the Proof of Milestone was to demonstrate video proof of gameplay featuring both attacker and defender structures and units.

I am pleased to report that we have successfully achieved this goal. Attached to this report is a short video showcasing the gameplay at its current stage. In the video, users can see the attacker's structures producing attacking units and the defender's structures destroying those units.

Overall, the game is already fully playable from both the attacker and defender perspectives. This is a major milestone for our team and a testament to the hard work and dedication of our frontend developers. We are excited to continue building and improving upon this foundation as we move forward.
