Detailed Plan

Problem: African children in marginalized areas do not have the opportunity to use digital tools to tell their own stories. The reason this is a problem is because denying children in the 21st century the opportunity to participate in discussions about themselves is detrimental to their sense of autonomy, independence, social competence an resilience.

Solution to the problem

  • Give African children in marginalized areas a voice to tell their own stories in their own languages to build them as future leaders.
  • Help them learn how to use digital tools to tell their own stories in their languages,
  • Give them this sense of autonomy and independence,
  • Boost their confidence in using technology competently,
  • Improve their social competence and resilience
  • Have documented stories o boarded on the Cardano block chain for future generations

Narrative

The African Storybook is a multilingual literacy initiative that works with educators and children to publish openly licensed picture storybooks for early reading in languages of Africa. The initiative aims at Creating a digital library of African storybooks for early reading and facilitating their use and versioning for local languages and contexts, made available through openly licensed digital storybooks distributed by means of web-based Internet and mobile app. Children get to tell stories about what they like and how they live. They also display their cultural items and get to have a voice through creative writing and illustrations in their languages .

Given the size of funding requested this remains a pilot and will be scaled since the issues are very similar in Africa

I would like to resubmit the proposal in the grow Africa challenge to see if we can get more seed funding to get the tech support needed to create NFTs and an app

This project was easy to implement as the stories are available and opensource. We will continue to work on writing the stories and hopefully put them into the Cardano ecosystem and create NFTs with them
