We'll build a workspace to translate Catalyst institutional documents into Spanish and Portuguese and save them in a repository developed for this purpose and easily available to the dReps community.

Problem:

Many LATAM dReps will have difficulties in carrying out their task due to the gap between their native language and English, resulting in under-representation.

[IMPACT] Please describe your proposed solution.

One of the most difficult challenges Catalyst is presently experiencing is the ability to communicate and convey various sorts of documents in a language in which we are not competent. And the responsibility that comes with representing other people in something as important as our community's decision-making requires that the information a dRep receives be of the highest quality, so we need people to perform this type of service and find technical, scientific, web pages, or legal translators, among others, who will offer us a translation that is faithful to reality while also fitting the writing and communication features of each language.

As soon as feasible, we will provide a framework for translating into Spanish and Portuguese (maximum: one week from original publication) documents of Catalyst reference groups, such as Catalyst Circle, QADAO, and Catalyst School, create materials that are then published in a repository accessible to the whole community, complete with a comment box for feedback. This repository will be a resource for anybody involved with Catalyst who want to access the ecosystem's core documents, which have been translated into Spanish and Portuguese. For the selection of the documents to be translated, priority will be given to Dreps' requirements and to their important role.

[IMPACT] Please describe how your proposed solution will address the Challenge that you have submitted it in.

Our proposal seeks to have accurate translations from and into English into the two predominant languages in Latin America as soon as possible, contributing to the LATAM Dreps onboarding.

As previously stated, delegation of the vote is a critical issue, and having clear communication for this purpose is critical for the community's decision making as well as the projects' proponents. In this way, our project contributes to improve the accuracy of delegate decisions since the LATAM Dreps will have the necessary resources to have a good performance.

As a result, we are certain that our plan has significant scalability given the ecosystem's expansion and variety in the next years, as well as LATAM's immense potential (640 million inhabitants, potential users of Cardano and Catalyst). It can be swiftly translated to other regions of the world and address different languages by developing an efficient translation system.

[IMPACT] What are the main risks that could prevent you from delivering the project successfully and please explain how you will mitigate each risk?

The main risk is the atomization of translation efforts or the duplication of translations (the same document translated more than once by different teams) generating deficiencies in the use of time and resources. As a solution, we propose to generate good communication channels with the different LATAM translation teams to coordinate efforts.

Another risk is the overload of documents to be translated in a short period of time. The way to mitigate this will be to find out which are the most important and urgent documents to translate by establishing a priority order (ranking) for their translation, prioritizing the demands of LATAM dReps.

[FEASIBILITY] Please provide a detailed plan, including timeline and key milestones for delivering your proposal.

The follow-up of how the project will be managed is quite basic and easy to follow; the budget is structured to translate a set number of papers, which will be outlined below based on our experience over the previous year. Each document that is translated and delivered will be subtracted from the total fee agreed upon at the outset.

If, for any reason, fewer papers were produced than projected, the funds will be returned to the community.

Outline

Our project has a 4-month completion period. We will translate into Spanish and Portuguese 4 documents (average: 10 pages each) for the first month with an estimated increase rate of 30% per month, according to the following detail:

  • First month: 4 documents translated into Spanish and Portuguese.
  • Second month: 5 documents translated into Spanish and Portuguese.
  • Third month: 7 documents translated into Spanish and Portuguese.
  • Fourth month: 9 documents translated into Spanish and Portuguese.

Accumulated: 25 documents translated into Spanish and Portuguese

Total: 50 translations completed.

[FEASIBILITY] Please provide a detailed budget breakdown.

Spanish Translations: 25 docs x 6 pages x 500 words x usd0.05/word = 3750

Portuguese Translations 25 docs x 6 pages x 500 words x usd0.05/word = 3750

Repository Development 980

Project Management 1500

Total 9980

[FEASIBILITY] Please provide details of the people who will work on the project.

We are a group of Latin Americans who have been translating materials for the LATAM Cardano Community like an autonomus group in order to help the Spanish and Portuguese-speaking communities comprehend the many Cardano initiatives.

Our core team will help to set up the program as we have the experience and contacts to be able to do it on time and with high quality results. Among our core team we can cite:

[FEASIBILITY] If you are funded, will you return to Catalyst in a later round for further funding? Please explain why / why not.

The need for texts, videos, and web pages in different languages is essential for the growth of this community; our proposal seeks to grow the Catalyst community in Latin America, and the topic we are dealing with, DReps, is just one of many that need to be communicated in languages other than English; as a result, we will seek to be involved in these processes for as long as this need exists.

[AUDITABILITY] Please describe what you will measure to track your project's progress, and how will you measure these?

The follow-up of how the project will be managed is quite basic and easy to follow.

Key Metrics:

  • How many documents are translated monthly (0-9)

  • How many LATAM dReps require our documents (0-?)

  • How many people engage with the repository (0-?)

[AUDITABILITY] What does success for this project look like?

To have recommended methods in the two most widely spoken languages in Latin America, so that dReps may better represent the voters, whether in English, Portuguese, or Spanish.

[AUDITABILITY] Please provide information on whether this proposal is a continuation of a previously funded project in Catalyst or an entirely new one.

We've been undertaking translations to and from English in the Cardano LATAM community, and we've discovered a need for a lot more organized translation system, which is why we're proposing this project for the first time to solve this idiomatic issues, while contributing to the role of LATAM's Dreps.
