Solution

Continue on the first Web 3.0 "school" integrating DAO, DID, contracts, NFT and search functionalities into a scalable, searchable, navigable, sustainable model for supporting learning and community.

Problem:

Few solid use cases exist for DAOs and DIDs; education focuses on evaluation and less on learning; blockchain-related curriculum is hard to find and update; few are motivated to participate in upkeep.

[IMPACT] Please describe your proposed solution.

How we perceive the problem we are solving

Developers understandably lack vision as to how Web 3.0 technologies could be integrated to create a functional school or campus environment to benefit learners, industry, Catalyst, Cardano, and the world.

Our reasons for approaching it in the way that we have

Our action research work so far points to the feasibility of our model which integrates DAO, DID, contracts, NFT and search functionalities into a scalable, searchable, navigable, sustainable model for supporting learning and community.

Who our project will engage, or who its stakeholders are

Virtually ANY learner (K-12, professional, limited English,..) of ANY topic; organizations seeking parallel data on competence e.g. of applicants; sponsors; Catalyst (e.g. related to PA skills); Catalyst community members interested in curating educational content and in consuming it.

How our project will be implemented

Funding in F9 will allow us to

  • Work out details of how to best incentivize all paoDAO supporters and contributors
  • Continue building the foundation for a scalable DAO of education
  • Continue to pilot prototypes and build out infrastructure with maximal community input.

What you will produce (i.e. our outputs)

With F9 we will build out a tokenomics model whereby learners as originators/creators of instructional content get a slice of the royalty pie, as will members of the Study Buddy DAO.

Six different specific infrastructure developments are described in this video https://www.bitchute.com/video/3XJSkPkofLK2/

What will happen as a result of our work (i.e. our outcomes)

Cardano community members and THE GENERAL PUBLIC will be able to participate in a completely new, open-source protocol for learning all kinds of topics, including technical (i.e. Plutus programming) or general (i.e. gardening) topics.

Catalyst will enable a functioning DAO-based school for its own purposes and as a generalizable use case set.

What's unique about our solution, and what value it brings to the Cardano ecosystem

Cardano wants to be the go-to blockchain for DAOs, as indeed it should be. No one is proposing the level of technical, conceptual and usability considerations into one integrated model as we are doing. Keeping the "decentralized" in the D-A-O.

Who will benefit

a) The most immediate beneficiaries will be incoming PAs looking for alternate, aligned approaches to their own onboarding process; in the bigger picture this school becomes an example of Cardano’s technology in action supporting models for sustainable education that can be used universally.

b) people interested in learning more about classical Chinese philosophy : )

c) the greater Cardano community, insofar as Cardano aims to be the go-to ecosystem for DAOs, and the paDAO School of Blockchain has the potential to be a globally-adopted not only school but also protocol.

d) people in the wider world, with real learners of real (inc. technical) topics. Meaning one community we serve is developers and potential developers who are ready, willing, and able to enter learning contracts.

[IMPACT] Please describe how your proposed solution will address the Challenge that you have submitted it in.

(Addressing "What Cardano needs," <https://cardano.ideascale.com/c/campaigns/26594/about>)

Effective Collaboration Management Platforms to Organize Community Intentions and Actions

In F8 we pioneered and created

⦁ a Collaboration Management Platform in Discord

⦁ An onboarding/intake form and process for matching incoming learners with suitable study buddy/group members

⦁ A competencies curriculum framework for guiding social learning on specific topics and sub-topics of interest to individuals and the community

Interested parties please contact [email protected] for access. This pioneering work in the Cardano ecosystem "creates additional not yet existing tools to give Cardano a distinct advantage."

The Study Buddy Education DAO has real-world applications and produces real-world data on learning progress on virtually any kind of topic. "Learning artifacts" (evidence of learning) are available as minted NFTs for others e.g. prospective organizations "to use in evaluating the features available in this Cardano-based DAO."

DAO Community Collaboration

As the Challenge says “There are no better ways to manage your DAO than to use Cardano DAOs.” This project is a real-world use of Cardano DAO tech, making use of DAO for community collaboration (in the learning and assessment; in finding, sharing, and monetizing learner IP); for DAO creation (prototypes already created for intake/onboarding, see https://modigdev.com/study-buddy); for DAO operation, governance (in incentivizing participation by establishing educational NFTs as a renewable resource). Although we have a lot to learn and we will hire in some areas.

While pedagogy and basic infrastructure have been our focus in F8, for F9 we shift our attention to creating an equitable and encouraging royalties model for creators (i.e. NFTs made from learning artifacts). This will allow the community to invest in the future of upcoming talents in virtually every domain.

DAO Governance

We are passionate about sovereign governance. Governance related to educational NFTs will need to evolve; this project will be testing the concept of "DAO as functioning school," and we are looking for collaborators.

[IMPACT] What are the main risks that could prevent you from delivering the project successfully and please explain how you will mitigate each risk?

  1. Having too many pots on the stove at once. To counteract we will focus resources on which of the 8 development areas allows for smoothest progress, at the same time trying to progress in all areas.
  2. Not having great expertise in the area of DAOs beyond participation with Cardano Catalyst. To mitigate we’ll be looking for collaborations on e.g. for voting technology, contracts, and tokens. Meanwhile we’ll focus on developing the underlying concrete use cases for voting, contracts, and tokens in the "school" context.
  3. The community may not accept such a radical new model of education. To mitigate we’ll continue our networking and educational efforts e.g. presentations and demonstrations basically for marketing.
  4. Although there’s a lot to do, most tasks this fund are relatively straight-forward for Web 2.0 developers that we can bring in.
  5. Scalability will always be of great importance; we can mitigate by using rapid-prototyping and effective feedback generating development approaches to avoid getting into developmental constraints.

[FEASIBILITY] Please provide a detailed plan, including timeline and key milestones for delivering your proposal.

Month One - Regrouping, staffing up as required

Month Two - Continue collaboration outreach inc. test users

Month Three - Integrate related resources as these become known in the Catalyst community

At all times, tangible progress on functionality for

  • Curating learning resources
  • Creating individual study plans; finding buddies with similar plans
  • Finding learning resources with focused relevance
  • Simple but rigorous decentralized (peer) validation system
  • Creating and minting educational NFTs

General steps

  1. Assess tokenomics and governance models for best fit to inform innovation. Include consultation with potential collaborators. Form alliances and partnership as applicable.
  2. Get the tokenomics aspect functional in a proof-of-concept state OR continue to evolve the underlying contract(s), if we are already at that stage by the time F9 funding is distributed.
  3. Continue pilot-testing by test users.
  4. Implement with existing and incoming Study Buddy/Competencies Framework learners.
  5. Fail rapidly, tweak and redeploy as time and conditions allow.
  6. Reflect and report.

[FEASIBILITY] Please provide a detailed budget breakdown.

$5k for creating/refining each of

1 Curation (Search/voting)

2 Governance (develop tokenomics model and prototype)

3 Buddies (Contract*, notifications)

4 Resource submission (tagging, upload)

5 Validation (Contract*)

6 Minting (automation)

*“Contract” here understood as paper pilot of processes to enable smart contract in F10

TOTAL Web 2.0 and 3.0 programming

6 x $5k = $30k

7 Project management/networking $1800k (3 mo = 12 wks x 5 hr = 60 hrs @ $30 = $1800)

8 Course development; facilitation $2400k (Chinese course; Proposal Assessor’s material @$40)

TOTAL $34.2K

[FEASIBILITY] Please provide details of the people who will work on the project.

Michael Modig

[FEASIBILITY] If you are funded, will you return to Catalyst in a later round for further funding? Please explain why / why not.

Possibly as we continue building this infrastructure. Over time some funding will be requested for bounties for learners and educational content curators.

[AUDITABILITY] Please describe what you will measure to track your project's progress, and how will you measure these?

  • Curating learning resources (Deliverable: tangible progress on integration of voting)

  • Creating individual study plans; finding buddies with similar plans (Deliverable: building on intake process already established, make tangible progress on group-forming process)

  • Finding learning resources with focused relevance (Deliverable: tangible progress on nuanced search and display functionality)

  • Simple but rigorous decentralized (peer) validation system (Deliverable: tangible progress on learning contract e.g. notifications)

  • Creating and minting educational NFTs (Deliverable: tangible progress on automated minting for approved resources)

  • Documentation of governance model in several aspects

[AUDITABILITY] What does success for this project look like?

Cardano and other learners can directly access this DAO school, or create their own using this as an open-source model; the five functionalities described above are brought to MVP level or better.

[AUDITABILITY] Please provide information on whether this proposal is a continuation of a previously funded project in Catalyst or an entirely new one.

Yes, it builds on our F8-funded proposal Cardano Learning Needs Assessment, by which we were able to roll out the Community Advisors/Proposal Assessors Skills Framework, which is now being made available to a DAO as curriculum material, and also for community yields through tokenomics being applied to educational NFT creation.
