Solution

We are asking the Cardano community for their vote to fund Eternl's operating costs for 6 months. This will support our current setup plus additional capacity for a growing Cardano user base.

Problem:

Without reliable funding, the ongoing operation of the Eternl wallet is at risk. Running costs of $15000/month are draining Eternl's reserves because we do not yet have reliable funding.

This proposal was approved and funded by the Cardano Community via Project F9: Dapps, Products & Integrations Catalyst funding round.

[IMPACT] Please describe your proposed solution.

Eternl's infrastructure is used by many power users. 25% of all transactions on the Cardano Mainnet are processed through our servers. We want to continue to serve the Cardano network to the best of our ability.

The proposed funds will be used to pay for Eternl's infrastructure for 6 months, for which we currently pay $15000/month.

With their vote, the Cardano community can help us cover these costs so that we will be able to continue to provide an excellent wallet experience.

[IMPACT] Please describe how your proposed solution will address the Challenge that you have submitted it in.

Eternl extends and complements the thriving Cardano ecosystem. Our wallet has been integrated into many of the community's dapps and products.

The funds will allow us to pay for all current servers for six months. This ensures that we can continue to provide the community with our reliable multi-platform wallet.

[IMPACT] What are the main risks that could prevent you from delivering the project successfully and please explain how you will mitigate each risk?

The only risk we see is the closure of Tastenkunst, the company behind Eternl. Our company was founded in 2008 and has a small but dedicated team of developers. Eternl accounts for only half of our business and the risk of the company closing is minimal.

[FEASIBILITY] Please provide a detailed plan, including timeline and key milestones for delivering your proposal.

We will continue to operate and maintain our server infrastructure. This includes adding more servers, upgrading hardware if necessary and preparing for Cardano network upgrades/hard forks.

Key milestones:

  • hard fork in July

  • hard fork in October/November

[FEASIBILITY] Please provide a detailed budget breakdown.

Eternl's server costs are currently approximately $15000 per month.

The requested amount would cover Eternl's server cost for about six months.

[FEASIBILITY] Please provide details of the people who will work on the project.

The team consists of Tastenkunst GmbH employees as well as freelancers.

[FEASIBILITY] If you are funded, will you return to Catalyst in a later round for further funding? Please explain why / why not.

Eternl generates ADA revenue through its TITAN stake pool as well as through the DApp Browser feature. At an ADA price of 1 EURO/ADA, the ongoing revenue would fully cover the server costs.

In June 2022, the ADA price is below 0.50 EURO, which is why we created this proposal to get the help of the Cardano community to cover the server costs in the bear market.

Finding additional revenue sources is a high priority. We cannot rule out future proposals as long as the ADA price is below 1 to 2 euros or new revenue sources have been created.

[AUDITABILITY] Please describe what you will measure to track your project's progress, and how will you measure these?

The goal of this project is to ensure the reliable operation of Eternl for its users (25% of all transactions on Cardano Mainnet are submitted through our infrastructure), i.e. synchronize accounts and submit transactions.

This goal will be successfully achieved if we can serve all users without any downtime within the six-month timeframe.

[AUDITABILITY] What does success for this project look like?

The goal of this project is to ensure the reliable operation of Eternl for its users.

[AUDITABILITY] Please provide information on whether this proposal is a continuation of a previously funded project in Catalyst or an entirely new one.

This is not a continuation of an old proposal.
