Detailed Plan

Cardano needs multiple use cases in the media and entertainment industry. Smart contracts offer the ability to digitize the whole production process. Historically, production companies are special purpose vehicles that favor producers and investors. We feel strongly that smart contracts and cryptocurrencies can help kindle a new way of making television, movies and media by creating a more equitable process for creators and investors alike.

What this is?

Project Babbage is a start-small idea that could grow into something big, but is meant to be an experiment first. Can the Cardano ecosystem's upcoming Alonzo hard fork (and smart contracts) support the pre-production, production and post-production activities of a production company – including things like voting for greenlight analysis, paying writers and actors for validatable work, investments, profit percentage points, etc.

By start-small, we mean that we are asking for funding to experiment with a few ideas:

#1 - Building a story that showcases blockchain and Cardano: this phase will pay a few writers to create a story that showcases cryptocurrency's potential to change the world. The writers will produce three story outlines, which will be published during our periodic updates.

#2 - Pay for the pre-production story phase using a simple smart contract. In other words, we'll build the smart contract MVP to create the initial story agreement, confirm receipt of story (exchange between producer and writers) and pay writers in their own wallets.

ALL OF THIS ON A BLOCKCHAIN WITHOUT THE EXCHANGE OF PERSONAL INFORMATION ON A CENTRALIZED DATABASE.

What this isn't?

We are not trying to solve media and entertainment production world peace. Other projects on, for example, Ethereum – like Mogul STARS, for example – seem to focus on the glitz and glamor of investment, glamorizing a Kickstarter-on-steroids-like concept. Such projects start with the glitz of funding a movie, but do not seem to offer the most important element: proving how the architecture of a blockchain will make the lives of creators and investors better.

Our belief is that no one really knows, and therefore building hype and ICOs before experimenting with concepts first is nothing more than vaperware.

Please don't misunderstand: we have big ideas. We foresee a world where every component of media production – especially film and television – can be executed via blockchain.

But that world, in our opinions, should start small. And fail fast.

So then how will this funding be used exactly?

The funding will be used to create three minimum viable concepts.

 • Building the smart contract / dapp MVP to pay the writers ($30K)
 • Paying writers for three ideas ($10K)
 • Community Engagement ($5K)

Roadmap:

Q4 2021 – Build a Minimum Viable Concept with story ideas

Q1 2022 – Build Pre-Production Smart Contracts; Film Financing Workflow Phase 1

Q2 2022 – Film Financing Workflow Phase 2

Q3 2022 – Executive Producer, Director, Writer Smart Contracts Phase 2

2023+ – Voting systems for greenlight analysis, Production Monitoring, TBD
