[IMPACT] Please describe your proposed solution.

The goal of the documentary "Chasing The Wada Dream" is to show the story of blockchain education and new opportunities for Africa.

The best way to do it are film festivals and in-person screenings.

Never heard of this movie?

[IMPACT] How does your proposed solution address the challenge and what benefits will this bring to the Cardano ecosystem?

Why this challenge?

> Catalyst Open aims to seed the ideas which might, in time, grow the ADA economy and inform our future funding priorities.

This proposal is trying to reach beyond the gates of Cardano Community. To inform outsiders and newcomers about the benefits of the projects built around Cardano.

The documentary itself shows the mechanism of Project Catalyst and follows the early steps of wada which works as an inspirational gateway for newcomers.

Understanding real-life stories of people within Cardano ecosystem is crucial for further adoption in my view.

[IMPACT] How do you intend to measure the success of your project?

It's not easy to be selected by film festivals. The success is every single screening we achieve.

We'll be monitoring the list of film festivals and in-person screenings on our website.

We'll be sharing photos and videos from the events we organize.

[IMPACT] Please describe your plans to share the outputs and results of your project?

We'll be publicly announcing the film festivals and screenings on Twitter and on our website. In fact, we already do:

[CAPABILITY/ FEASIBILITY] What is your capability to deliver your project with high levels of trust and accountability?

Petr Smělík - documentary filmmaker

I'm producer and director of this movie.

I've been working as a professional filmmaker for 16 years. My work has been shown in television and cinema. Along the way these projects received several awards.

I have successfully delivered two proposals in F8 Film and media challenge:

1) Blockchain Class:

https://www.adafilms.art/blockchain-class

2) Chasing The Wada Dream documentary

To be clear: The production of "Chasing The Wada Dream" itself was funded by Project Catalyst in F8.

We've stepped into the distribution phase in March 2023. It's an ongoing process of 12+ months.

This project received Best Film Award at Nucast Film Festival and was selected to be part of a huge Conference / Festival in Rwanda July 17-20. This event has 6000 attendees and over 100 000 viewers participating online.

I filmed at Cardano Summit 2022:

[CAPABILITY/ FEASIBILITY] What are the main goals for the project and how will you validate if your approach is feasible?

Let's break this down to two categories. We want to:

1) submit the movie to the film festivals across the globe

2) organize in-person screenings in Africa

1)

We are already submitting the movie to the film festivals.

Throughout March 2023 - March 2024 we plan to submit this movie to carefully picked 30 festivals.

The goal is to be selected by the festivals. The success is to be at least to 5 of them.

2)

We'll be arranging in person screenings in Africa.

These screenings are organised by wada representatives in local cinemas / cultural halls / schools etc with the opportunity of the discussion after the screening.

This is planned for December 2023 - March 2024.

4 screenings. One per month.

[CAPABILITY/ FEASIBILITY] Please provide a detailed breakdown of your project’s milestones and each of the main tasks or activities to reach the milestone plus the expected timeline for the delivery.

We already started. The producer (me) is paying all the costs so far. The goal of this proposal is to re-imburse the efforts and then continue to deliver the most possible positive outcome.

1) FESTIVALS

Chasing The Wada Dream selected to Rwanda Festival

July - November 2023 we'd continue to submit to other film festivals. The list is constantly changing so we cannot plan this into the specific details right now.

2) SCREENINGS

We plan to do 4 screenings. December 2023 - March 2024.

Those are planned in wada hubs in Africa.

The project will be divided into 4 milestones. More on the timeline and deliverables of those milestones in the section below.

[CAPABILITY/ FEASIBILITY] Please describe the deliverables, outputs and intended outcomes of each milestone.

The project will be divided into 4 milestones.

Each festival and screening will have its own photos, articles, online track record.

We'll be gathering the information about all of it on our websites.

Milestone 1: November 2023

 • We report all the information from the selected and not selected festivals from the last months.
 • We report about the upcoming screening happening in December.

Milestone 2: December 2023

 • We report about the screening that happened in December.
 • We report about the upcoming screening in January 2024.

Milestone 3: January 2024

 • We report all the information from the selected and not selected festivals from the last months.
 • We report about the screening that happened in January.
 • We report about the upcoming screening in Feb-March 2024.

Milestone 4: March 2024

 • We report all the information from the selected and not selected festivals from the last months.
 • We report about the rest of the screenings that happened in Feb-March 2024.

Statement of milestones is ready here at this link.

[RESOURCES & VALUE FOR MONEY] Please provide a detailed budget breakdown of the proposed work and resources.

Budget breakdown:

1) festivals

$1500 - 30 x festival submissions (The cost to submit to the film festival is $40-50 per festival on average)

$750 - administration, accounting - throughout the whole project (12 months, March 2023 - March 2024)

$750 - running the social media and website throughout the whole project (12 months, March 2023 - March 2024)

$1500 - supporting graphic design and video promotion

$2000 - travel and accommodation costs for in-person festivals. For example for festival in Rwanda we are sending a representative who will present the movie and speak on behalf of the project. We need to support this person with travel and accommodation costs.

$1500 - producer's one time reward for running the project

2) our organized screenings

In person screenings in cinemas / schools / cultural halls

$2000 per one event x 4 = $8000

This includes the preparation, planning, travelling to the location, screening and presentation with the discussion after.

Specific locations will be revealed. Most likely are Accra, Douala, and Goma.

Additionally we'll have a Public Relations support from Sustainabla ADA

 • leverage network to get the screening online, independent cinemas in London, Paris, Asia (Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia), articles and influencers to promote in their network ($1500 - Sustainable Ada)

The overall budget is $17500 or 70000 ada.

Please note the conversion to ada is based on the estimate of $0,25 per ada at the time of writing.

In case the price goes up we'd be happy to submit to more festivals or to organize one more screening. The same applies vice versa in case of price going down.

[RESOURCES & VALUE FOR MONEY] Who is in the project team and what are their roles?

Petr has a graphic designer and an account manager in his team.

In person screenings team:

Megan: Wada Cameroon Hub Co-Lead, Central Africa Coordination Lead, Wada core team member (Education and Event Lead), Maths & Physics teacher, bilingual (French & English)

Public Relations and addtitional screenings:

[RESOURCES & VALUE FOR MONEY] How does the cost of the project represent value for money for the Cardano ecosystem?

It's crucial to raise awareness about blockchain education in Africa.

Showing one movie that can breakdown the basics in 40 minutes and that can spark the dialogue about Cardano are money well spent I believe.

Please be aware that the documentary budget ($15 000 in F8) was rather low compared to other documentaries on the market.

And it's pretty common in this business to spend a similar amount for marketing and distribution efforts as for the production. That's why we're proposing this amount.

I strongly believe this movie can serve very well to support further adoption of Cardano in Africa.
