Host a 'porte ouvert', open door meet up, in a Parisian Theatre, where the public can meet, discuss ideas + learn about Cardano + Catalyst.

Problem:

Knowledge and awareness of Cardano and Project Catalyst, in French, in Paris, is lagging behind the English speaking world.

Detailed Plan

Hi! Bonjour!

This proposal seeks community support in providing the necessary funds to host a first of its kind 'porte ouvert', open door meet up event, to take place at Theatre Pixel (https://www.theatrepixel.org/)

It is an independent Theatre in the 18eme arrondissement of Paris, the same neighbourhood setting of the cult classic film 'Amelie'. (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0211915/)

The maximum capacity is 38 seated, so it would be an intimate event!

With invitees from a range of sectors and backgrounds.

Having attended the Cardano Summit 2021 online, I was surprised to see that Paris was not hosting a physical meetup:

<https://forum.cardano.org/t/cardano-summit/69937>

<https://www.meetup.com/Cardano-Blockchain-Paris/>

I have grown to call Paris home (having been born and raised in London, and lived in Malaysia, Philippines and Indonesia) and so I am hoping to be able to give something back to the community here in the form of this unprecedented type of event, the first of many more hopefully!

The long term aim would be to host a series of monthly events, in a unique space for people to do the following and more:

  • Learn about blockchain, Cardano and Project Catalyst
  • Discuss, and share ideas around transparency, data, trust, cutting out middlemen of necessity
  • To build connections and networks and feel inspired and empowered to join the Cardano community
  • To inspire entrepreneurs to propose in Catalyst
  • To catalyse a positive multiplier effect in Paris and beyond

The Event Day:

Nothing is set in stone and the agenda of the day is TBC.

We aim to have a series of speakers knowledgeable of Blockchain, Cardano and innovative entrepreneurship, with opportunities for networking on the day.

A number of tickets open to the public, and some paid reserve in advance only tickets possibly depending on the speakers we can book.

This is an opportunity to build a bridge into the Parisian ecosystem and engage a community that is not yet fully engaged in the Cardano ecosystem.

Impact:

Paris is often considered to be the number one tourist city of the world. The city of lights, love and romance. Having lived, studied and worked here for years, while married to a Frenchie, I am aware of the love for theatre here. What better place to host a series of events that seek to catalyse and inspire the imagination of people, empowering them to enter a community of changemakers.

Feasibility:

Our proposal team have experience in hosting public events and porte ouverte via our roles at Jusna Association, which raised funds for disabled children and educational projects in Indonesia via fundraisers across Paris (http://associationjusna.canalblog.com/)

I have worked at Theatre Pixel as their Communications Officer, and have a continued, long lasting relationship with the Director and owner of the Theatre, who moonlights as an IT Consultant and is sensitive to new technological developments that propose to make the world better!

Additionally, I completed a MA Sustainable Development at University Paris Dauphine in 2014. My professors were involved as researchers at a French Research Institute, and co-authors of a report on Blockchain and Sustainable Development Goals - <https://www.institutlouisbachelier.org/et-si-la-blockchain-favorisait-le-developpement-durable/> - I will seek to invite them as speakers.

I have connections with University Paris Dauphine as an alumni, and also at CY Cergy Paris University, where I taught undergrads and postgrads, across the Humanities Faculties, from September 2020 - until the summer of 2021.

Furthermore, as an active Cardano community member, I will seek to connect with French speaking, Paris based Cardano community members, who may be open to collaboration to make this event the best it can be!

Auditability

Our event will be photographed, filmed and we aim to have it live streamed. Promotional material will be shared from the event via social media channels, and with the Cardano community.

Budget:

Venue hire: 1 day = $2000 (includes lighting and sound engineering professionals, box office entry, door management etc)

Refreshments: $200

Marketing & Communication materials (online and offline) : $600

Budget for Host/ expert speakers in French: $2000

Admin/project management: $500

NFT incentives for attendees who download wallets and complete registration and social media sharing: $700 (exploring how this could be done in partnership with other community projects such as Veritree, Wada, Sustainable ADA, and more)

Professional video production and photography of the event: $500

Total budget: $6500

Roadmap:

If funded, our team will commence talks to secure the Theatre at a fixed date (target July 2022 once academic summer holiday has started, and the weather is nicer!).

This should allow time to plan accordingly from February onwards, and to invite the appropriate speakers, promote the event online and offline (Eventbrite, Meetup, Cardano community channels, professional and academic networks) to ensure the maximum possible turnout, and also for online attendees to view the recording/live stream.

KPIS:

# of attendees

# of online viewers for the livestream

# of views of recording

# of wallets created

# of nfts downloaded

# of IdeaScale accounts created

# of subscribers to Cardano community channels

# of social media tweets, RT and shares

# of proposals into Catalyst from being onboarded via this event

# of proposals in French with the help of this event

# of people onboarded into the Catalyst communities via this event

Risks/challenges: Due to the ongoing pandemic situation, covid 19 safeguards and protocols will have to be prepared for and local laws followed with regards to hosting a public event, Theatre closures etc. Travel may be impacted too etc.

As the maximum capacity under 'normal' circumstances is 38 seated attendees, we will have to review the situation regarding the governmental regulations on hosting events, as we go forwards.
